I am new on here. I am trying to complete my family tree. I paid for an account on ancestry.com but am running into problems on my moms side (Parkers). My mother is Gwenan Faye Parker.

My grandfather was Lawrence Parker, Sr. (9 July 1929 Arkansas/Missouri - 16 October 2004, Georgia). He was a twin. He married Mary McCasland.

My great grandfather was Emery James Parker (28 June 1895 Missouri/Arkansas - 22 June 1988, Lake City, Craighead, Arkansas).  He married Florence Bryant (22 August 1897, Alabama - 9 July 1926) on 1 August 1915, Poinsett, Arkansas.

This information was gathered from relatives and the few census records I could find online.  Any help on this line would be very much appreciated.

Info on Martha Pleasant Anderson

William Parker and Martha Pleasant Anderson are my grgrgrgrgrandparents.

In our family we have much info on William but little on Martha.  We are told that they were already married when they came into Haywood Co. and then settled in Transylvania Co, N.C.  We are told that Martha was born in NC and her mother was named Nancy Anderson.a

Records seem to indicate that her father was Henry Massengale who was a very prominent farmer and politician in Tennesee.  He settled in what was then still part of the Cherokee Nation.  Many of his friends apparently had White wives and also Indian wives.

My guess is that Martha was Henry Massengale's daughter by an indian wife and that's why she kept the maiden name of Anderson.

Does anyone have an information?

Hello! I am looking for more information on my family. I have begun my search recently and have run into many roadblocks. This is what I do know.

My Grandfather was Flavous Stanley Parker born to William Jasper Parker and Ida Callahan Parker on March 20, 1920 and passed away March 13, 1995.

My Great-Grandfather was William Jasper Parker born to Jasper Newton Parker and Martha Ann Mason Parker on February 5, 1890 and passed away June 3, 1979.

Here is where I reach my wall, Jasper Newton Parker, my 2nd great grandfather

Birth 4 Apr 1851 in Bradley, Tennessee, United States

Death 20 Jul 1932 in Charleston, Bradley, Tennessee, United States

I cannot find anything that shows who his Father "was" and subsquently not data further than this. I have some genealogy work that my Great Uncle Donald completed that showed Aaron (Ernest Marion) Parker being married to Rebecca Sherrill born in 1820 as his parents, but I am finding very little information. I did find that in the 1860 Census, for Bradley County, TN that Aaron and Rebecca Parker lived in the same home which seems to match. But little else. (It's really difficult to read, so I wonder if Aaron is my 3G or 4G Grandfather. (Looks like Aaron's age is 79, while Rebecca's is 49? Which I guess isn't all that unheard of, just seems like Grandpa Aaron may have been the bit of a lady killer!)

Other trees linked in Ancestry show she was born in 1806 and passed away on November 6th, 1874. However, I am unsure of dates based on the many variances out there. Even the 1870 Census roll page which shows her at 58 years old shows a Birth Year for her of about 1812, but Aaron and most of the children are not listed.

I plan on participating in the YDNA option to see how things tie back further, but always looking for additional assistance!

Thank you in advance!

HELP!! LOL

Hi Everyone. I'm a newby. My sister has been doing this for a while, but she's a new Grandma and I don't want to disturb her.  She uploaded my Dad's YDNA back in 2008, the year he passed away.  Hasn't done much with it.  I don't think either of us understand...

Here is my delema.  I began combing records of Duplin County NC.  My Great Grandfather was a brick wall for us. We know who he is, but NO ONE would tell my Grandfather or my Dad and siblings anything about where they come from .

So in a fluke, I found his Marriage record thru a friends brainstorming with me. (everyone likes a good mystery).  From there and thru hundreds of trails, I think I found the rest.

So this morning I took a look at Dad's DNA again. Found how to get those exact matches...but nothing.

So I went back to the MAP and there was Thomas C Parker  b 1814, d 1865 with my Father's Haplogroup.  R-P312. Then I saw who I think is the same 3 great grandfather John Parker R-P312 (been tracking a John Parker for two days) with my Great grand right above him William Thomas Parker (sister put his name in instead of my Dad Jesse Parker)  in the map as R-P312 in Haplogroup R1b No Parker DNA Matches....

Please, without sounding ignorant....what does this mean to a beginner?  Is it a match? Am I one step closer to proving the direct line from Jesse J Parker Jr and John Parker if they all have the same Haplogroup?

Sincerely WANTING to be a Parker and not someone else,

Sheila Parker Benisek

I have 2 DNA matches that are direct descendants of Frank Hannibal Parker, 1871-1960, born in Orange Beach, Baldwin, Alabama, USA, died in Pensacola, FL.  Most family members have no idea who his parents were, as he and his bother were raised in Pensacola, FL by someone other than his immediate family.  His brother's name was Charles Colas or Cotas Parker.

One person on ancestry.com has his father as Peter Parker 1802-1898, and mother as Mary Francis Burke who died about 1873.

Does anyone have information on this Peter Parker?  He would not be my great grandfather's direct connection, but might help me get a good lead on him.  Thanks

I have been researching the early Parkers of Pittsylvania County, Virginia for years and have had no dramatic breakthroughs in all that time.  But I recently purchased the 1782-1812 personal tax lists from Binn’s and the information was enlightening so I will share it here.  The tax list information is combined with deed information, and some other sources that will be cited.

It is evident to me that there were three heads of household Parker families in Pittsylvania starting in 1770’s-1780’s.

They were:

  1. William. Parker of the Pigg River (PG) area (Cherrystone, Harping Creek), married to Henrietta.  (They were my ancestors)

  1. William Parker of Old Woman’s Creek (OWC) married to Keziah.

  1. John Parker of the Staunton River.

William Parker of Old Woman’s Creek and John Parker of the Staunton River have some evident relationship.  They lived fairly close together and deeds demonstrate a relationship.

I offer the following family reconstructions:

  1. John Parker, b. as early as 1741 based on birthdate of eldest presumed son minus 20 years.  He was on 1782 Pittsyl. Tax list and his first land record in Pittsylvania was 1783 land grant. Per the Shelton Journal, a John Parker d. 23 March, 1811 – the tax list information supports the fact that he died in 1811.

Children with birthdates per their first appearance on the tax lists (tax list appearance minus 21 years – they had to be 21 to be accounted for on list; I calculated this by the pattern of the number of tithables attached to John and then their appearance as a separate tithables by name):

Joseph 1761

Benjamin 1763

David 1770

George 1769 (he did not appear until the 1812 tax list but subsequent censuses established his birthdate as 1769)

Notes:  Except for George, the parentage of Joseph Benjamin and David is evident in the tax lists.  David is even specified as the son of John. This contradicts information by researchers that Benjamin, David and George were sons of a William Alexander Parker who I believe needs to be treated as fictitious at this time.  Quoting others, The Rainey collection in Oklahoma has John Parker as the father of Mary, Benjamin, George, David, Sarah and Elizabeth. This matches. I have not read the Rainey information but would like to hear from anyone who has.

  1. William Parker (OWC), b. about 1765 based on his earliest tax record in Pittsylvania minus 21 years.  He was first on Pittsyl. tax list in 1786 and in a Pittsylvania deed in 1794. He was married to Keziah based on deeds.

Children:

John, 1788

?????, 1790 (possibly Wyett or Pleasant who were mentioned in the Dalton Journal)

Notes:  It is evident to me that this William Parker (OWC) is likely a son of the above John Parker of Staunton River, based on his reconstructed age.  Previous researchers have assumed that John Parker of the Staunton River and this William were brothers, coming from Bedford County but there is a large age discrepancy.  My conclusion is that John was the father of William.

Per other researchers, in 1788 William Parker (OWC) made a Bedford land purchase and sold this same land in 1797 while a resident of Pittsylvania Co.

Keeping in mind that 1) John Parker and 2) William Parker (OWC) both lived just across from the Bedford County line, the theory that they were from Bedford seems compelling.

Looking at the Bedford County personal tax lists 1782 to 1794, I found the following tithables:

1782 to 1786 and 1792-1794, Thomas Parker

1782-1784 and 1787 to 1793, John Parker

1783 (two James in 1783)-1785 and 1790-1792, James Parker

1785-1787, Benjamin Parker

1785- 1789, William Parker

In the several tax years subsequent to 1793, the only Parker left in Bedford was Thomas Parker. This seems to bolster the theory that John, James, Benjamin and William, all names found in the families of John Parker of Staunton and William Parker (OWC) of Pittsylvania were the same. The following is an analysis of the Bedford tax lists:

Benjamin Parker: The 1785-1787 period in Bedford roughly fits his disappearance in Pittsyl tax lists from 1785-1790. He was apparently in Bedford at this time.

William Parker: He appears first in Bedford tax lists in 1785 and first in Pittsylvania tax lists in 1786 (he is on both tax lists for a few years). This Bedford first appearance bolsters his reaching the age of 21 on or about 1764-1765.

John Parker shows in both counties at the same times suggesting that  John owned lands in both counties.  Apparently it would have to the elder John of Staunton since his son John, Jr was not old enough.

I’m not sure why there are two James.  But I believe one of these James is a brother of the John Parker of the Staunton River, more about this below.

Thomas Parker does not appear in Pittsylvania at all, only in Bedford but I believe he was a brother of the John Parker of the Staunton River, more about this below.

The possible ancestry of the Parkers of Pittsylvania:

The following is from other’s research:

Will of Thomas Parker

Essex County, Virginia WB 11:301 Made 1-4-1761, Ret'd 5-18-1761

Children, #1-5 by Sarah, #6-11 by Mildred

1 Robert Jr. b. before 1742 John Goode division (WB 6:438) d. 1792 Essex will (WB 15:1) m. Sarah

2 Mary b. ca 1749 d. Aug 1826 Franklin Co. VA m. ca 1764, Alexander Farguson (1740 Essex-1817 Franklin Co. VA),

3 Martha

4 Ann

5 Sarah

6 Chloe

7 Clara/Chary b. before 1754

8 Thomas b. after 1754 d. after 1796 m. Rhoda ; Constable of Bedford 1784; moved to Franklin Co. VA by 1791

9 William b. after 1754 d. after 1802 m. Keziah ;  1788 Bedford land purchase, sold 1797 while a resident of Pittsylvania Co. VA; bought land on Old Woman's Creek in Pittsylvania Co. VA 1789

10 James b. 5-21-1757 d. Nov 1833 Bedford m. Rhoda

11 John b. before 1761 d. after 1802 deed; in Bedford by 1789 when bought land in Pittsylvania Co. with bro. Wm. & sold his interest to Wm. 1802

The above from other’s research, if correct, certainly fits well with the John Parker of the Staunton River and the William Parker (OWC) of Pittsylvania.  In fact they are specifically mentioned. However the researchers assumed John (Staunton) and William (OWC) were brothers whereas I think they were father and son, based on their reconstructed ages and their children’s ages.

But, and this is where I get to my own line, the other, older William Parker of the Pigg River; he fits better the William Parker shown above in the chart listing the children of Thomas Parker and Mildred Donaho, both in his assumed birthdate and in the names of his children:  Here is his reconstructed family,

  1. William Parker of the Pigg River, b. about 1752 based on the assumed age of his eldest son minus 20 years. He was married to Henrietta based on deeds and a family bible.

Children (per will and tax lists, Abraham and William died before will):

John Parker, 1772 per tax lists, 1777 per his descendants

William Parker, 1776 per tax lists,

James Parker, 1777 per tax lists

Abraham Parker, 1788 per tax lists

Elijah Parker, 1792 per later censuses

Mildred Parker, 1782 (marriage minus 20 years)

Sarah Parker

Nancy Parker

The male children’s names of John, William and James match the presumed Bedford family of Parkers.  The daughter Mildred matches the name of William’s presumed mother Mildred Donaho Parker of Essex/Bedford.

So there, you have it, all the questions are answered for all of the Parkers of Pittsylvania County, VA, They were descendants of Thomas Parker of Essex County and possibly two wives, the second, his widow, Mildred Donoho Parker, who moved to Bedford County with her Donaho relatives.

Well, not quite.  The problem here is my presumed birthdate of John Parker of the Staunton River.  I am using a birthdate of 1741 and don’t see how it could be much later than that.  The problem is that the presumed mother Mildred Donaho did not marry Thomas Parker until 1748 at the earliest, her first husband Alexander Ferguson dying in that year. Now, Thomas Parker did have children from his first wife, Sarah (?) but the above indicates they did not include John and that he was a child from the second wife, Mildred.

There were several John and William Parkers at that time from Halifax and Brunswick/Lunenburg counties, so there are other potential lines to explore but the Bedford Parkers are still the likeliest candidates for the ancestors of the Pittsylvania Parkers. The logic almost fits but not quite perfectly.

Any comments are welcome.

I'm currently looking for more information about my Parker family.

My great grandmother is Walas Ann Parker (born Sept. 26, 1889 in Pottsville, AR; died June 13, 1956 in Del Rio, TX). She married James Monroe Patterson (b Feb. 26, 1892 in Lamar Co. TX) on March 5, 1914 in Francis, OK.

Her parents were Joseph Charles Parker (born April 9, 1857, died July 19, 1946) and Margaret Catherine Wells (born 1853, died Oct 24, 1900). I believe he was born in Charleston, SC and died in Titusville, PA (buried at a  Cumming Cemetery).

I believe Joseph's father was named Joseph as well. However, I can't find any information past this.

Would anyone have any information about this side of the family? Thank you!

Anson Parker

My grandfather is James Alfred Parker born in Crawford County AR in 1921.  He was part Cherokee and he stated he was listed on the rolls but my Mom never got a chance to go search all the microfilm for his number.  He is now deceased and I have traced back several generations:  Irvin Parker, William Jasper Parker, Andrew Jackson Parker, and am stuck at Anson Parker married to Olivia Hatfield.  City historical records indicate Andrew Jackson was orphaned at age 10 in Morgan County, Tennesse and traveled with a half-sibling to Arkansas.  This would be around the time a lot of Cherokee were leaving TN and many migrated to Arkansas.  It would seem that there was a group of families who moved together.  One of them being Mason S. Conley (Connally) who was married to Rhoda Conley.  Mason was killed in 1837 defending his two brother-in-laws Barnet & Bolin Cheatham.  Andrew Jackson Parker would later marry one of Mason's daughters who was Keziah Conley-Shepherd.       I have just run into a dead end ...

Her father, my Gr #1 was Ted Lee Parker married to Elvah Ellen Martin. He was B. Aug. 31st, 1906 and died mid 1960's. They had 10 children, Rohland William, Marjorie Marcella, Orville ?, Arlene Marie, Vonnie C, Robert Delman, Dale Teddy, Corlene Jean, Wanda May, and Dixie Lee.

Gr #2 Teds father was Isaac Ezekial (Zeke) Parker,  B. Apr. 25th, 1854, Died 1927. He married twice, first to May Patton 1879. Their Children were, Bertha D. 1970, Olive 1879-1973, Della (Dilly) 1880-1965, Evie May 1887-1912, Andrew M (Bud) 1889-1970, Ed Thomas 1890-1976, Lloyd 1891-1923, (twin) Loyal 1891-1956, Purda (Trudy) 1892-1897........Second wife Emma L (Jones) Cox. and their children, Unnamed girl D. unknown, Johny ?, Elgin ?, Sarahanna ?, Glen Cox (hers), Ole Cox (hers, Isaac Ezekial (Ike) 1899-1986, Amy A 1900-1972, Josephine ? 1903-?, Ted Lee 1906- 1960 something, Jennie Mae Dates ?, Lenna Merrietta Dates?

Hello again,

As I continue to search the Parker's that are connected to Sarah Hudson, daughter of 1 st Peter Hudson, and her husband Edward Parker of Halifax Co. Va  They were married ca 1740's.probably in Henrico Co. Va the land then fell into Lunenburg Co, and then Halifax as of 1752. My Peter Hudson also had land in Charlotte Co. Va. So was prosperous family.

This is the finding. Edward Parker Jr, born Edward Parker the Jr. born ca 1740's and married a Susannah Sharp daughter of Henry Sharp of Henrico Co, Va around 1765. As proven by Will of Susannah mother's Will. They moved from Halifax Co. Va to Rowan Co.( Now Davie Co.) North Carolina. His Will of 1819 is found on web site Edward Parker of North Carolina. They knew he came from Halifax Co Va as the sons and daughter were married and some continued to live there. They married into the Womack's, Jenkins', Abbott and Liscomb families of Halifax Co. Va

Have made contact with Edward Parker son David Parker family decedents and  that of Susannah Parker who married into the Thomas Hughes family.  They seemed to have stayed in North Carolina. They were happy to have the information that connects them to Halifax Co. Va family. And in the process of verifying the information I have sent.  Some of this family moved to  Madison Co Tenn. The David Parker decendant did the DNA with Ancestry.com which was some time ago. He said it didn't help. I did ask Wayne Parker and he gave me the Web address for this gentlemen to send his information to. But as this time I don't know if he will pursue the information. It would be great if we would as that may indeed prove the connection to the Francis and William Parker of Halifax Co. Va and Smith Co. Tenn.

Now I have also made connection to a lady who has made the connection with the son of  William Parker of Smith Co. Tenn. This William Parker came from Halifax Co. Va  ca 1804 if not before. And according to his Will ,he had son William, Richard, Edward and Joseph, daughter Lucy who married  Rev.Miles West.

She has traced Edward  Parker, son of William Parker, to his family from Smith Co. to Williamson Co. Illinois.

So this Halifax Co. Va Parker family has connections from Halifax Co to Smith Co Tenn to Williamson Co. Illinois. I know that Francis Parker of Smith Co. Tenn daughter married a Thomas Nash who moved to I believe Crawford Co. Indiana. Many of Francis Parker family stayed in Smith Co. Tenn.

Hope this will help some one. If anyone interested be happy to send information.

Hello,

I'm trying to trace my family in a sort of backwards manner. I do not know anything about my fathers family. I have oil royalties from the Parker family and have to start there and more forward down the tree. Any one with any information they could share would be greatly appreciated. I would assume there are others of us who still have Oil rights from the Parker Family and that would be the best way to start my search if I could Identify those existing families.

Thanks

I got pretty excited when I learned that I was part of family grp#7. I thought I would be better able to put together my ancestry having that knowledge. I see two potential places after looking at Wayne N Parker's roots.web trees that my ancestor could fall into. But it seems that no one is related to that part of the family. Or at least that has any knowledge. I wonder if anyone on here has access or lives near where Stephen W Parker who married Elizabeth Jane Ridley lived and can check the courts for a will. He was last seen on the 1850 census in Barbour Co, Alabama. I am searching for proof that he is the father to my 3rd great grandfather Elvington Parker born 1810. Since Stephen married Elizabeth Ridley in June of 1809, it makes sense that Stephen is a strong possibility of being the father when Elvington was born in 1810. Please let me know if you can help, thank you
