HOW TO USE THIS TAX LIST

Tax Lists contain lots of information, but due to the large size of the page and the numerous columns it is sometimes difficult to understand.  Follow these examples, and I think you'll be able to interpret what you see on the list itself.

I've selected two examples from the first page...             

 

  William Roberts 2 pole

  101 – Upson-15

  do 202  -Upson=$1.00

  This means that Mr. William Roberts had 2 adult

  males in his household

  (himself and either a 21 year old son or some other

  male kin).

  He owned 101 acres in Upson County in Land

  District # 15.  (No lot

  number given)

  He also owned another tract of land containing 202

  acres (also in Upson  County).

  His tax was $1.00.

 

  Abner McCoy = 4 pole

  202 Upson – Towns-D. Creek-15-14

  202 Upson- Towns-C. Creek – do-192

  202 Dooley-14=$1.90 ½

  Mr. Abner McCoy had 4 adult males in his household.

  He owned a tract of land containing 202 acres in

  Upson County, located on

  Towns Creek in District 15; land lot #14.

  He also owned a second tract of land....same

  district and lot #192.

  Additionally he owned 202 acres in the county of

  Dooley, District 14

  His tax was $1.90 ½
