Sterling Price Parker

I have tried finding my Parker roots through my Grandpa Henry M. (Milton) and had no responses. I have since obtained some records to finally get my search going. My family tree goes something like this starting with my dad, his dad, his grandpa and on down the line.Spouse:Robert Eugene Parker. 1925 - Georgia Ella Mathes. 1928 - 2003Henry M (Milton) Parker 1888 - 1973 Geneva Dudley. 1894 - 1984Sterling P. Parker. 1864 - 1915 Rebecca Jane. 1868 - 1959Henry E Parker. 1817 - 1863 Rachel Alstott 1827 - 1889Woodson D Parker. 1796 - 1861 Abigail Mitchell 1798 - 1869Nathaniel Parker 1775 - 1857 Sally RamseyWithout going into a long story, I can't get a male heir on the Parker side for a DNA test as anyone I was connected to have passed, including my brother. I had an Autosumal test done through Ancestry.com but it has only connected me with families on my mothers side so again the Parker side is what I have researched and there are so many families with conflicting information you really have a hard time figuring it out.Is anyone in this family tree line?

  • Any relation to the Henry Sterling Parker of Franklin, Va who married Elizabeth Doughty ?
  • Thank you,True, you are correct. When I had first started looking into my family tree, I was told Nathaniel Parker was our line, but after research I concluded the same that Nathaniel was not and took him off my line.
  • FamilyTree DNA [ https://www.familytreedna.com/public/parker?iframe=yresults ]shows at least one male Parker descendant of Woodson Daniel Parker 1796-1861 has taken a yDNA test. Comparing his yDNA to Nathaneil Parker 1775-1858 of Sumner Co., TN.[ http://sites.rootsweb.com/~theduffypapers/parker/woodson_daniel_par... ] shows only 7 of 25 yDNA markers match and 23 of 25 need to match to prove a biological relationship. So Woodson Daniel Parker can't be a son of Nathaniel Parker 1775-1858.

  • Carol-

I agree about the maize.  I wish I could believe that Woodson was the son of Nathaniel.  We did a lot of research about Nathaniel and his family, including a trip to Hampshire County West Virginia where we tracked down the property of Nathaniel's father (John) and uncle (George).  We found the handwritten wills of both John and George at the courthouse in Romney.  We also tracked down John's house on the South Bend of the Potomac and were guided to the old foundation by the people who now live on the property (the wife's maiden name was Parker).  Finally, we spent time down in the Bethpage, TN area finding the old properties and graves of the family and Nathaniel's cabin at the Fort Bledsoe park.  I came to like and admire the family and was quite disappointed when I finally decided that it was not mine.  Once I found the record of James Parker married to Charlotte Daniel, the daughter of Woodson Daniel, located so close to Tennessee at the right time to be Woodson's parents, and lacking any direct evidence that Woodson Daniel Parker was the son of Nathaniel and Sally Ramsey, I had to change my belief.  Woodson Daniel is such an unusual name, my working assumption now has to be that Woodson Daniel Parker is probably the grandson of Woodson Daniel, who I believe was born in Goochland and moved to North Carolina.  If I ever find any evidence of that one way or the other, I'll let you know.  I'd ask that you do the same.

    Best regards.

  • Hi Richard,
This Parker family tree is definitely a maize, about time I think the puzzle is coming together, there are lots of turns and questions. You can look at other family trees and you go yes, yes, oops? I am willing too search every angle, so I would welcome your input.
From all the family trees I have looked at and articles I have read, Nathaniel Parker D (1775-1858) was married a short time to Sally Ramsey D (1775-1797), appx 2-3 yrs; and in that brief time they had one child Woodson Daniel Parker, then he married Lucretia Penny.
Woodson Parker & Abigail Mitchell were parents to Henry Emanuel Parker who married Rachel Stutzman ( had three children), then Rachel Jane Alstott who they had five children, which their last son born, Sterling Price Parker was my great grandfather, who was my grandpa Henry Parker's dad.
This is what I have thus far on the Parker side, but like I said, I'll check out all roads . I wish I could find an actual birth record of Woodson.

    Thanks for your help!
  • I also thought that Woodson D (1796-1861) was the son of Nathaniel Parker.  I no longer think that is correct.  There is a James Parker (?-?) mentioned as the son in law of Woodson Daniel (1736-1791- died in Wake Co NC) as the husband of daughter Charlotte.  Woodson Daniel was the son of James Daniel Jr. and Elizabeth Woodson- hence the name Woodson Daniel.  Having found no documentation that Woodson Daniel Parker was the son of Nathaniel Parker, I've come to believe that it is too unlikely that the name did not derive from the marriage of James to the daughter of Woodson Daniel and that James and Charlotte moved to someplace in Tennessee where Woodson Daniel Parker was born 5 years after the death of his namesake.

I haven't been able to find anything more on where James came from, but would be happy to share what I know of the Woodson's, Daniel's and Parker's.  My line also goes back to Henry Emanuel, but tthrough Henry Karn Parker who was a son of Henry's first marriage.

  • Search our site for Nathaniel b1775, I think I have seen it. Welcome to PH! Mike
