I'm trying to trace relatives of Charles Parker born 16 August 1836 (possibly 1834 or 1838) in Gotenburg Sweden.
His father was a British sea captain and his mother was Swedish. He had a brother possibly younger and they were about two years apart. Not long after the second son was born their mother died. The father soon re-married but the second wife had no time for the boys so at a very young age they ran away to sea together.
Charles' brother left the ship in America and he never heard from him again. This was probably early 1850's as he had talked about the ship being in New York when Jenny Lind was singing there and she toured from 1850 - 1852 arriving and leaving from New York.
Charles eventually jumped ship in Wellington New Zealand in 1856 where he married in 1960 and had 10 children
If there are any Parkers out there who have an ancestor with a similar story it would be wonderful to find our American cousins
