William Parker of Halifax Co. Va

Hello Parker's

As I have been searching the Parker families of Halifax Co. Va. My family line is from 1 Peter Hudson and his land was on Difficult Creek, Clover Creek and Black Walnut Creek area of Halifax Co. Va

1Peter hudson died 1752 what was now Halifax Co. Va. He had daughter Sarah Hudson and she married Edward Parker b. ca 1710 ish.  So in trying to find which Parker's belong to my Hudson family. I have been researching these Parkers and trying to separate them. ( not easy except if you follow the deeds and land)

There were at least 3 William Parker (Sr). of Halifax Co. Va. In the same time frame. Having children around same time.

William Parker, son of Drusilla Parker, husband was William Parker who died 1756 in Cumberland Co. Va.

William Parker who died 1756, had sons, William, Obediah and Daniel. Will is found on line.

William left land for Daniel in Halifax Co. Va. and 100 acres, the home plantation to William Jr. and Obediah in Cumberland Co.Va.  Obediah  died in 1777 in Halifax Co. VA ,no children. This land in Cumberland Co. Va was sold in 1777/78 to Thomas Moody. Deed record to prove.

Drusilla Parker wife of William of 1756 bought land in Halifax Co. Va in 1769 from Joseph Terry. Deed to prove.  Now all this land was on Mirey Creek area of Halifax Co. Va.  A Hendrick research has many deeds that prove William and Drusilla lived on Mirey Creek. Hendrick research files can be found on line.  This William Parker is also a Revelutionary Solider under Humprhey Hendrick's. And Humprhey is the brother to Ann Hendrick Parker.  William is listed on the a Deed as a heir of John Hendrick's  dec'd of Mirey creek who had a daughter Ann Hendrick's Parker.

This William Parker  of 1819/20 had listed no wife, two sons, John, William, daughters Sally, Elizabeth (Henry) Finch, Lucy, and Kitty or Katherine.  And have check this land is on Mirey Creek. Which he gives to son's. William evidently had a mill,  he gave one half to John and another to William Jr.

So pretty sure this is William son of Drusilla Parker and he is still living in Halifax Co. Va. Not in Smith Co Tenn. The William of Smith Co. Tenn had already died and list his sons as William, Richard, Edward, Joseph and Lucy Parker West.

There was also a William and William and a John Parker living on as far as I can tell on Hunting Creek area of Halifax Co. Va . Check the 1782 Tithe list of Halifax Co. Va for the Parker's.  I researched as many of the people living around these Parker's as I could find evidence for. And there deeds show they lived on Hunting Creek of Halifax Co. Va. They must have left the area as have found no info on them. These Parker's lived close to a Dr. Bennett.

Third William Parker is: we have William, Francis and Edward Parker all living in the Difficult Creek, Clover Creek, and Black Walnut Creek area.

A Womack research proved that they all lived closely together through the Halifax Co. Va tax list. Be happy to send his web site if interested. Edward Parker the Jr b. ca 1742 was the Edward Parker who about 1796 moved to Rowan Co. North Carolina. This also has been proven by Will of Joseph Abbott who's son William married Edward's daughter Mary Parker. Edward Parker was security for the Joseph Abbott. Also proven by her application for his Pension as of 1848. She married William Abbott 1784 born ca 1765.  You can find these on line also.

Edward Parker's family married into families living along the Difficult Creek, Clover, and Black Walnut Creek area. Such as the Abbott's, Womack's, Jenkins and Purcell's. This is proven by Will's.

Now the problem,  internet searches say that one of these William Parker married a Martha Perrin Cardwell of Charlotte Co. Va. and that their daughter Lucy Parker married Miles West and move to Smith Co. Tenn, Dixon Creek area about 1804.  And that Lucy Parker West is the granddaughter of Drusilla Parker of Halifax Co. Va.

Now I found the Will of Martha Perrin Cardwell's father Richard who died 1780 in Charlotte and (A) William Parker witness the Will. So we know there was a William that married Martha P. Cardwell. But whose and when? I have found no connection or proof of the William and Martha P. Parker being Drusilla Parker's son.

Or that she married the William of Difficult Creek as far as that goes.

I have search archives back to 1998 of internet. NO proof given by Don Primrose. He was the leading researcher at the time. He evidently Is no longer living. So unable to question his information.

Now it is possible that William of Mirey Creek was married to Martha Cardwell and then she died and he married Ann Hendrick, daughter of John Hendrick of Halifax Co .Va. Possible but so far no proof of that.

Found the Hendrick files, there is a deed where Ann Hendrick Parker witness a gift deed from her father John to Charles Thorton Smith in 1784. So if it is the same William Parker, he had married Ann by 1784.

So I guess if that's possible, but still the Lucy Parker in the Will of William Parker of Mirey Creek 1819/20 is not listed as married.  And we know that Lucy and Miles West were married before 1804 when we was pastor of Dixon Creek Church. Can't be the same person

I have found the Will of an Ambrose Estes and according to the Will date 1794 Witness to this Will are Wm. Parker William Parker Jr, Richard Parker, Edward Parker. And that a William Parker and James Bruce were executor of this Ambrose Estes Will.

Now according to 1782 Tax list Ambrose Estes lived in the Difficult Creek area. Now because of the Will of William Parker of Mirey Creek, not having sons Richard or Edward, not likely he is the William Parker who witness Will of Ambrose Estes.

So that leaves the William of Hunting  Creek or the William of Difficult Creek as the likely the William Parker of Smith Co. Tenn. Also the William Parker of Smith Co. Tenn also had as witness the son's of Francis Parker Abraham Parker and Archibald Parker. Also the Robert Wilburn who witness daughter also married in to the Francis Parker family.

Things always need further research. But I believe I have given enough evidence that the William Parker of Smith Co. Tenn  is not  the husband of Martha Perrin Cardwell Parker or Ann Hendrick Parker. I am in contact with the descendants of Edward Parker of North Carolina. I have ask if they have consider a DNA test to prove this line. But have not heard back from them.

If any one want deeds or web sites would gladly share and will love to hear from anyone interested in this Parker line. Or if question. Please let me know.

Thanks

  • Hello Marge,

Thanks for all the information that you have posted. I have been real busy with my other hobby lately and that is gardening and our orchard. We planted over two hundred tomatoes plants this year. We eat and can some, then sell the rest. We have been making jelly from our peaches and mayhaws.

As I have said, I am not kin to this Parker line as far as I know. I am hopping to find a living male descendant of Richard Parker who died about 1680 in Henrico County, Virginia, that we can trace by a good paper trail and then to see if they would do a DNA test.

  • Hi Wayne,

This proves that Obediah and William Parker  son of William Parker who died 1756 sold land in Cumberland to Thomas Moody. And this is the same William Parker of Miry/Mirey Creek of Halifax Co. Va.  Brother Daniel Parker of Halifax Co. Va. This was done before Obediah died in 1777.

Did you find the information on Daniel E. Parker of Dyer Co. Tenn. Let me know if you didn't. I find it and send it to you.

    Happy Hunting

  • Hi Wayne

Guess Ancestry.com is having some problems.

But I did find on my records this information. About the Borum family.

    http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~janet/Echols.html
7 Judith Birth 7 September 1766, Halifax Co, VA, (1766, 9, 7; South River Monthly Meeting) married John Borum in Halifax County 17 January (bond) 1788. For marrying out of unity, the Quakers disowned her 10 May 1788. John Borum emancipated three slaves in 1794. Borum died soon afterwards for, on 23 October 1797, Halifax County recorded an appraisement of his estate made by Daniel Parker, William Parker, and George Borum. Although condemned for misconduct 18 August 1792, Judith was reinstated to the South River Monthly Meeting a month later. South River received Sarah and Katy at the request of their mother, Judith, 9 September 1797. All were granted a certificate to Fairfield Monthly Meeting, Ohio, 12 August 1809. Judith and two children were in Highland County, Ohio, when they sold John?s Polecat Creek land. 5? Sarah Borum . 5? Obediah A. Borum . 5? Catherine B. Borum .

John Borum gave land for the Halifax Co. Va Court house,

    http://www.oldhalifax.com/county/CourthouseHistoryTuck.htm

    Part of this reads.

On August 1777, Plea Book 9, Page 238, Capt. Humphrey Hendricks was "surveyor of the road from Evans Creek to the new courthouse at Borams". Plea Book 9, page 264, November Court 1777. It is ordered that John Boram, Moses Terry and John Epps do view and mark of the best and most convenient way for a road from the new courthouse to George Watkins Mill.

(Again Humprhey Hendrick's brother in law of William Parker and his wife Ann Hendrick as of 1791 at least.

    Also

    http://search.pch.com/search?q=1770+Hendrick%27s+files

"19 Feb 1778 Nominated to be Militia Officers. Francis Arnold recommended to the Governor as a proper person to ba appointed Captain in the Company of Militia where of Humphrey Hendrick was Captain, said Hendricks having removed out of the bounds of his Company. William Parker to be First Lieutenant, Parminea Colquitt to be Second Lieutenant, and William Evans to be Ensign in said Company. "

I have not found this William Parker as being in Rev. War other than this information. But this again connects this William Parker with the Hendrick's and Colquitt family.  Permeas Colquitt was the brother to Drusilla Colquitt Parker. Her father was Anthony Colquitt.

This just more evidence that the Parker's lived near this William Echols' line. And Notice the Daniel Easley is listed.

16 Apr 1761     Halifax Co., VA. William and wife Mary Russell of Raleigh Parish (also spelled Royley),  Amelia Co., for £200 conveyed to Daniel Easley of King William Parish, Cumberland Co., two tracts of land: 691 acres on the south side of Banister River and another tract on the same river, other tract beginning at Alexander Nelson’s corner, to lines of Echols and Sizemore. Wit: Ezekiel Slaughter, James Daniel, Thomas Lacy, Jr. Signed by mark “X.” Mary, wife of sd Russell relinquished her right of dower. [43] Note: This land was granted 12 May 1759 to him next or near William Eckhols. They lived on Polecat Creek. Note: Polecat Creek was part of the Bannister River.

    Halifax County Road Orders
21 Mar 1771 Road Order: George Combs appointed Surveyor of the Road leading from Boyd’s Road to Roberts’ Road...ordered that he, with male tithables belonging to Moses Hendrick, William Echols, Sr., John Anderson, Mead Anderson, Shadrach Gowing, Harry Hereford, John Chapman, John Hood, Nipper Adams, William Donathan, Thomas Spencer, William Mays, Nathan Sullins, Charles Henderson, George Wood, George Stubblefield, Daniel Easely, Stephen Easely, Joshua Adams, Thomas Lovelace, Samuel Wilson, George Brown, Champ Gibson, and William Chandler, do forthwith lay open and clear the said Road, and they then return to their former road.  (Halifax County, VA, Court Orders, 7:80)

So again this is the  William Parker's of Mirey/Miry Creek area of Halifax Co. Va. As these people were well acquainted in the area.

Extracted from: Halifax County Virginia Deed Book 7 1767-1770 by Marian Dodson Chiarito

But I did find this. Until I can send you the Will of Richard Parker

From Sally's Family Place - PARKER

Children of Richard Parker and Judith Watson:

    • 1. William Parker 1723/5 - 1755/6 Cumberland Co VA  married ca 1748 [Sarah] Drucilla Colquitt  will 1806 Halifax Co VA
    • 2. Richard Parker d 1797 Halifax Co VA      married Francis Wooldridge dau of Thomas
    • 3. Elizabeth "Betty" Finch     [?Henry Finch WP 1774 Halifax Co VA(
    • Correction is Betty married a Richard Finch which again is found on the Tithe list of 1782 of Halifax  living near Mary Parker.  Sometimes this mis spell Parker as Packer. But it is the same family .
    • 4. Benejh Parker [maybe named for Judith's father] (Have not found any children but still possible.
    • 5. Mary Parker [no record of marriage]
    • 6. Judith Hubbard.

Mary Parker and  got the 80 area of the Home Plantation. She never married. And she can be found in the 1782 tithe list of Halifax Co. Va. Near Richard and Benejah Parker.

Hope this is clear as mud Wayne. Let me know if you have questions.

    Marge

  • Hello,

Just one more piece of evidence.

Again evidence that the George Evans lived on in the Mirey Creek areas as the William Parker's. The Parker's of Mirey Creek seemed to be very connected to the Quakers. John Borum was a Quaker.

Ancestry, com is not allowing the information once free. . So can only give you this.

    Janet's Genealogy - Ancestry.com

    freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~janet/Echols.html

... John & William Echols my sons ... estate made by Daniel Parker, William Parker, and George Borum. ... Daniel Williams with wife Ann sells property in ...

Now most of the Parker researcher connect William Parker with Smith Co. Tenn Will of 1818 son Richard Parker who married Nancy Bartee in 1809 of Charlotte Co. Va that moved then to Warren Co. Tenn.

And according to Tom Parker his family line, most of children were born in Va,

And yet there is still a Richard Parker in the 1820 Census of Smith Co. Tenn.

I recently came across and Parker researcher that has a Deed for Richard Parker dated 1808 in Smith Co. for 235 acres. But was that all of Richard's land? I don't know.  And then the Dixon Creek Church records says that Richard was gone by 1811.

But did it mean he left the church.? Doesn't give a  record of dismissal which is usual if they leave the church.  And it doesn't say that he left Smith Co. Tenn.  Just said gone! Not clear!  This was from  the Book What's in a name by Hoke Holland West said, that Richard Parker and Polly Ligon Parker came with Miles and Lucy Parker West around 1804. And Richard and Polly Ligon were married 1797 in Halifax Co. Va. So there is possible that the oldest two children born in Va but probably the rest born in Tenn.  So need further research need.

They didn't give how they came to the conclusion that Richard Parker son of William is the Parker that married Nancy Bartee in Charlotte. Now I don't find a record of any Parker's in Charlotte co. Va so likely this Richard was from Halifax Co. Va.

But did the Richard Parker of Tenn come back to Virginia after the death of Polly Ligon Parker? So could we have a one William Parker line of Mirey Creek marring into Parker line of Difficult Creek.

Yet they are saying that is was Martha Perrin Cardwell William Parker. So Still not clear on this Richard Parker. With problems of with Tom's information. I wonder if it's connecting to the right families.  He maybe just no evidence to prove conclusively that is the same Parker line.

So far the evidence Is not clear at least to me.

Enough for now! Let me know if you have question. I have so much information floating around I may have over looked something.

    Will of John Jenkins

Marriage Bonds & Ministers' Returns of Halifax Co VA 1753-1800
The Rev Thomas Dobson performed all of these Jenkins marriages. He was a Baptist minister of the Hunting Creek meeting house/Baptist Church in northeastern Halifax County, VA from about 1775-1815. The church & cemetery are on Hunting Creek Road (603) just west of West Store Rd (609), which must have been the area where this Jenkins family lived.

Also that William Parker of Difficult Creek and Abrose Estes Will.

    Halifax County Virginia..Will Book 2...1783-1792
Ambrose possibly b. abt 1731, d. abt 1794 in Halifax Co., Will dated 28 Mar 1794. Sources on his family are again from McAllister = family sources but
    no name given.
m(1) before 1772 Mary per deed in Halifax
Residences 1753 purchased land in Amelia
1754 deeded that land in Amelia to bro Abraham
1764-94 in Halifax, no documents cited
    children:
    1. Martha m. bef 1794 Mr. Handley (Stanley or Standley)
    2. possibly Elisha, poss b. abt 1755
    m. bef 1779 to Jane, sold land in Halifax in 1779

Will dtd 28 Mar 1794 names "loving wife" & dtr Martha Handley.
Wits: Wm Parker Sr, Wm Parker Jr, Richard Parker & Edw Parker. Halifax WB 3:135

Now my understanding is a witness had to be at least 14 years old so I don't believe all the sons were 21 or older. I know that from Womack researcher, that William Parker Jr. of Difficult Creek was 21, bur not the others.

  •  Hi Wayne,

Hope I can help. While trying to find my William Parker son of Edward  Parker and Sarah Hudson. I check out some of  these families.

I found that Daniel Parker, son of Drusilla and William Parker who died 1756, had son William. And that he went to Dryer Co. Tenn too! Found his Will.

    WILLIAM PARKER

PARKER, STEPHEN WOOD, MARY FOWLKES, and PHEBY MAHAN, ISAACH PARKER, MARY ANN WALKER, FRANCIS PARKER, MARTHA PARKER, JAMES DICKEY, DANIEL DICKEY, ISAACH DICKEY, WILLIS DICKEY, MARTHA DICKEY, MAY TERRY and PHEBY McGEELY. I nominate and appoint DR. A. HARRIS my Executor to wind up and settle my estate as I have directed. In testimony whereof I have here unto affixed my hand and seal, this the 3rd day of January 1859.

    WILLIAM PARKER (Seal)

    Witnesses:
    A. S. HARRIS
    J. N. HAYNES

And when I check for some these nephews and nieces.  I could not find all of them on line. But those that I did were connected to the Parker's of Mirey Creek area of Halifax Co. Va. None to my Parkers of Difficult Creek. Or any connection to the William, William and John on Hunting Creek (That I can find)

Totty records of Halifax Co VA These record confirm that these Parker's lived on Mirey Creek.

Now the 1782 Tithe list. http://www.newrivernotes.com/old_nrn/va/hali1782.htm

Shows that Bartlett Crenshaw lived near the Parker's on Miry/Mirey Creek.

The Will of William Parker of Miry/Mirey Creek of Halifax 1819/1820 shows the son being John  (If correct)  According to Hellen Ball's book, John B. Parker left Halifax Co. around 1808/09 and ended up in Mo. ( If this is correct then the William Parker of 1819/20.)

But if these facts are true. Then your family would be  connected to the William Parker and Daniel Parker of Mirey Creek.

And not my William, Francis, and Edward Parker of Difficult Creek.

Do you have the Will's of Drusilla, William 1756 and Richard Parker of 1782 and Richard Parker of 1791 of Halifax Co.?

    http://genforum.genealogy.com/parker/messages/20867.html

    http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=demar...

Daniel Parker of Halifax family line.

Now I know that some of Tom Parker's family research submitted has many errors. As  he sent me his family line.

And it concerns me that he also concludes that Drusilla Parker lived on Hunting Creek. To me, means they have not done the research but copy older information and not verified. And I may not be perfect either but at least I am trying.

The reason I think so many are putting Drusilla Colquitt Parker on Hunting Creek is because that is where the Church of Thomas Dodson was located,  And Rev. Miles West was said, to have been ordained there at Hunting Creek Church. And Dodson did marry Lucy Parker and Miles West. But he married and was involved with the Parkers of Difficult Creek too. He was involved with Edward Parker as an executor of a Will Need to look this up again. If you would like.

    http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=grant...

10 Apr 1769 Deed: Daniel Terry to Drusilla Parker, both of Halifax County, for £20, 386 acres in Halifax County on branches of Mirey Creek, adjoining Moore, James Terry, Moore again, crossing a branch, Justice, and James Terry again... /s/ Daniel Terry. Wit: John Hendrick, George “X” Evins, William Daniel. (Halifax County, VA, Deeds 7:356)

Notice that John Hendrick witness the deed.

The Will of William Parker of 1819/20 Halifax Co Va gives property to John and William Parker crossing lines of Terrell and George Evans. So this is the same land on Mirey/Miry Creek.

So unless other evidence is found I conclude that this is the same William Parker. And your family line. As of yet I can not prove how the we get back to Wanita Powell Richard Parker. Unless the William Parker of Difficult Creek and Smith Co. Tenn son Richard supposedly married Nancy Bartee.

    I will send more later.

    Marge

  • Hello Marge,

I have been following your research on the three William Parker.

At this point I know of no connection to my Parker line.

I got interested in the three William Parker when I started trying to trace Daniel Easley Parker of Dyer Co., TN. (June 09, 1789-December 06, 1856)

On of the three William Parker is from Y-DNA FG#16.
P394 was added to this group in September 2013. He descends from William Parker, born between 1748 and 1750 in Hunting Creek, Halifx County VA. He was the son of William PARKER and Martha Drucilla COLQUITT.

Although I have some of this family in my file I am stuck on trying to figure out which William is part of Daniel Easley Parker of Dyer Co., TN.

I am curious about the Parker family of Dyer Co., TN as to weather this family might trace back to Richard Parker who died about 1680 in Henrico County, Virginia.

My Parker line traces back to one of the other three Richard Parker of VA. Richard Parker of Nansemond Co., VA  of y-DNA FG#7.

    Wayne N. Parker  P239 FG#7
