Parker Genealogy for the Descendants of

Daniel Louis Parker

Generation No. 1

Peter (1) de Alcancotes was born Abt. 1225 in Alkincoats, Colne, Lancashire, England.

Notes for Peter de Alcancotes: Browsholme Hall history booklet states that the Parkers of Browsholme are descended from Peter de Alcancotes, who held the Manor of Alkincoats in Colne in the mid 13th Century; the succession went from his son Adam, to Adam's younger son Richard.

Child of Peter de Alcancotes is:

  1. 1.      Adam (2) de Alcancotes, born Abt. 1255 in Alkincoats, Colne, Lancashire, England; died Aft.1311.

Generation No. 2

Adam(2) de Alcancotes (Peter1) was born Abt. 1255 in Alkincoats, Colne, Lancashire, England, and died Aft. 1311.

Notes for Adam de Alcancotes (A.k.a: Adam le Parker) : Browsholme Hall history booklet states that Adam was a son of Peter de Alcancotes who held theManor of Alkincoats in Colne in the mid 13th century, and his younger son Richard le Parker of Trawden succeeded; One record states that Richard was a grandson. An early mention of the Parker family occurs in the Inquisition Post Mortem of the last Henry de Lacy, dated A.D. 1311. Therein appear the names of Richard, son of Adam de Alcancotes; William, son of Adam de Alcancotes; and Adam, son of Peter de Alcancotes. The fact that Alkincoats was at this time not merely a mansion, but also a hamlet, sufficiently explains the frequency of the name. Here, in the time of John de Lacy, the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem held 20 acres of land. The Parkers, who derived their name and arms from the office of parker, or park-keeper, of the Forest of Bowland, trace their descent from Edward I. Exert from The History of the Forest of Bowland: There are some fine houses and estates in Bowland (Bolland) means "cattle land" and the Ribble Valley occupied by long-standing families, such as the Parkers at Browsholme (since about 1507).

Children of Adam de Alcancotes are:

  1. John(3) Parker, born Abt. 1285 in Ightenhill, Burnley, Lancashire, England.

Notes for Richard Parker: MY VIEW OF DR. RICHARD PARKER.

by Waunita Powell Dr. Richard Parker was Christened Nov. 29, 1630 at Warlegon in England. His father was James Parker, Knight, and Gentleman. James at age 25/26 married in 1616 Katherine Buller age 16. Their home was at Browsholme Hall in Yorkshire, England. The Buller family was an ancient and respectable family seated in Cornwall, dating back to the reign of Elizabeth (1558-1603). Katherine was a descendant of Geoffrey Plantagent. Dr. Richard Parker's Grandfather, William Parker, was Arch Deacon of Blisland, whose lineage is traced back to Gyles Parker through his son, Edmund Parker, who died 1547, and to Monk Wm. Le Parker, seated at Lancashire, England. Wm. Le Parker received land 1395 and was styled "De Monk Hall in Extwistle". Rowland Parker, a younger son of James, left an account of the family written Sept. 1, 1673. This account was found in an old Common Place Book now at Browsholme, the home of the Parker family in Yorkshire. Rowland listed 21 children. (ref.Va. Mag.Vol 5) He stated: "Richard, ye 9th, Dr. of Physick went to Virginy, married a Londoner and had issue six children, liveth upon Saint James River, in ye Uplands of Virginy, hath been High Sheriff of sd County." English law dictated that the eldest son was to inherit the estate of the father, so Richard Parker could expect little from his father. (Later years the estate of James Parker was decimated by suits between William, his eldest son, and himself). As many young men before him, he had to learn a trade or profession. He became a doctor, and went to the Colonies to make his fortune as a landowner and Doctor. On July 27, 1652 Capt. Francis Morgan was granted a patent of land in Glocestor Co., Virginia. Capt. Morgan had an earlier Patent in Charles City Co., Va. The 1652 patent had ten headrights, and among these were Richard Parker, Robert Burten, John Parker, and William Porter. Richard Parker, Wm. Porter and John Parker were in Charles City Co. John Parker's will probated there in 1678. His wife Ann was executor. Dr. Richard Parker, Robert Burten and William Porter later found in Henrico Co., Virginia. The Patent date is not an indication of date of arrival, but can only be used to prove the person was in Virginia by that time. With the London Company there was at least a seven year wait for your land patent. Later there was a stipulation that you must put up a small cabin (called seating) put a small stock of cattle to range in the woods for 12 months, and the headrights had to remain in Virginia for three years. You also had to plant an acre of corn or tobacco.

  • How definite are the children of Nancy Hattaway and Simon Peter Parker? There are three women who married into allied families of the Parkers just after the migration about 1831 to Alabama. My ancestor, Mary Jane Parker was one of them. Women were born in 1810, 1812, and 1814 and 2 of them married on the same day. How much is know about the Hattaways?
  • Rachel,  could I possibly purchase a copy from your father.  I don't have any pictures from the Parker side of the family.  I'm so glad the photo has been kept with a family member.  I've seen too many people try to toss such things into the trash..

  • Yes, My father has this picture and it is of Simon Peter Parker and his second wife Frances Barlow Parker.

  • as in Simon Peter and Frances Barlow Parker?  just needing to doule check myself, here.  That picture is very nice. I need to find a photo of William Jasper.

  • @Jacquie, I do not know if this has been proven. My profile picture is a picture of them.

  • Such a great job, Rachel!  Do you know if anyone has proven the Choctaw reference given to Frances Barlow, wife of Simon Peter Parker?  I've been checking various Indian Rolls.  But, haven't had success.
