Orange County, North Carolina Parkers

Hello,

My maiden name is Angie Parker and I'm researching my family.

My biological father Sammy Homer Parker (1943-1981)

My grandpa Iley Herbert Parker (1901-1978)

My great grandpa Robert Levi Parker (1865-1929)

My GGgrandpa James Parker (1825-aft 1880)

My GGGgrandpa John Parker (1790-1864)

All my uncles are deceased and none had male children so I have no male dna for my Parker line. Is anyone working on this line?

Thanks!
Angie

  • Parker family groups are formed when at least two male Parker y-DNA match each other and since P124 has not matched with any other Parker male no group can be formed.

  • So P124 John Parker and Johanna Messersmith are my 3rd great grandparents. Is there a family group for them?
  • Ah, I thought there was someone on the group that you meant you knew, I got excited. I've traced several John Parkers, just haven't found concrete proof of one being the right one. Those Parker men sure did like to name their offspring after themselves! The search continues and thank you!
  • "What Parker male???"
I don't know. Since this is not my Parker family and the only research that I did on the family was last night I am just trying to be helpful and so I passed on information that is posted on the Parker DNA project page. FYI that male could be from one of the other Parker lines of your John Parker.
Since you have been doing research that long have you traced all of JOHN Parker lines???

  • What Parker male??? My father died in 1981, all his brothers died pretty young due to an inherited disease called myotonic dystrophy, which is a form of MS. So I don't know of any other direct line Parker males.
  • Angie,
I know the feeling of frustration that you are having been there and done that more times that I can remember and still do.
At this point the one Parker male from (your line ?????) that has had his y-DNA tested has not matched with another Parker male.

  • Hi Wayne.
So John and Johannah (Hannah) is where my line stops with verified information. There are several John Parkers in that area but it gets tricky to pin one in particular as John Parker (jr's) father. I have seen Mary Jameson (Jamison, Jamieson) and John Paker listed as his parents, but I've seen a Thomas and an Elijah as well. The story with Mary is that she was married to a John Parker and that he died and then she had a child out of wedlock with Joesph Neely that was John's half brother. I was hoping that one of the groups on this site was tied into that line via dna. I've had mine done but I understand that it isn't as strong a connection as a males would be. My father died at 36 and all his brothers passed away as well and left behind no male heirs. It's made tracing my heritage tricky! Thank you for your help!
  • Hello Angie,

I may have something for you. I found John Parker born 1790 on the 1860,1850,1840,1830,1820, 1810 census for Orange Co., NC NOTE: on the 1810 census there is an older female (his mother??) living him and his wife and a younger female (his sister?)
I found a Mary Parker on the 1800 census for Orange Co., NC she has children that could be John and his sister. Her husband died between 1791-1880 based on their ages.

I also found this information about your John Parker.

P124— John PARKER, b abt 1790 Orange Co NC, d 1864 Orange Co NC
Wife: Hannah MESSERSMITH, married 1810 in Orange County NC
