James Lee Parker, b. 1810 Abbeville County, SC

Hello all,

Firstly it is so nice to be a part of this group.

Secondly I am looking for more information regarding the father of James Lee Parker who was born in Abbeville County, South Carolina in 1810.

I have a JPG of a photograph of an 1850 Census that shows James Parker as a Methodist Clergyman.

He Married Martha (Carlisle (or Carlile)) in 1835.

He Died in Leon County, Texas in 1883

I am searching for his father, who I think is also named James who was listed as being born in Ireland and that in the 1810 Census was at or over 45 years old.

Thank you!

Rick

  • Hello Sheila,
The 1880 Census in Leon County Texas shows that his father was from the old country Ireland.
Here is the link that I used, and these two parker households (110 and 111) show almost all his children are with him when they ran from the political unrest at the time.

    Here is an excerpt that I am looking at;

The first parker is Joseph Parker who is James' son (line 18).
James shows that his father was born in Ireland.
His mother was born in South Carolina.

    Thank you anyway!

  • Good luck in your hunting!
  • Ok so, this is how I'd handle this. If your not building a tree on Ancestry.com. Its a good Idea because once you get it going, it begins finding possible links for you to make a decision about if this decendant is yours or not. In the meantime, if you don't have a sibling of James Lee Parker, I have found one. That can help you correlate information. His wifes name is Martha Carlisle too. So here is an International genealogy record for your person and his Brother. Joseph Augustus Parker 1 February 1815 Anderson, Abbeville, South Carolina Death, 29 June 1837 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/97VX-9V7
  • Woops. That Document Link

  • I found an 1820 census for Abbeville listing James parker as head of household. Here's the family search site that will take you to the document. I have seen several family trees on Ancestry that say James Parker was born in New Hampshire in 1600's and his father being Samuel Parker, born in the USA too. however, all of the family trees were not showing other sources besides family trees for these two. If you haven't tried Family search.org, its awesome. Give it a good go. For the fmaily trees, I found it on ancestry.com
