Henry C. Parker

I am trying to clear up a mystery on Henry C Parker.  On every family listing I have seen he is listed as killed at Shiloh and date of death is June.  The battle of Shiloh was fought in April.  It also states that his brother Washington Wilshire Parker was with him when he was killed.  I have found that WW Parker did serve in the Civil War but can find no record for a Henry C. Parker.  Can anyone enlighten me on this?

  • You may wish to look into the group "North Alabama Parker's".

  • I'm a descendant of the youngest brother of Henry and Wilshire, James D. Parker.  If you are disturbed by a frank discussion of gruesome aspects of war, please read no further!

I think Henry may have not been killed outright at Shiloh.  Many more soldiers died of disease and infection after being wounded than were killed at once.  I have always assumed that this was why it was several weeks after the battle that Henry died.  We know more about Wilshire because he was wounded at some point, survived, and applied for a disability pension.  We have records of Wilshire's doings, because he lived.

I found the following on Ancestry.com, without supporting documentation:
