  • Robert,
Yes best way to post is to start a new discussion. Yes please post a transcription of your letters.

  • I had not thought of that, but I could post the notes here. I would warn everyone that it is my notes, and so might sometimes mean something to me that is not clear to the reader. But that would get it out there, so people could at least ask. Is the best way to just add/start a discussion on the home page, or some other way? Also, I could post the transcription of the letter from Nancy to Eliza. There is also a letter (1866, I think) from Nancy Jane Parker Pierce in Rusk County to her son Wylie Matthew Pierce in Georgia. I need to research that further, but it is my impression that he stayed in Georgia awhile after the war.
  • Robert,
You know a lot more about your direct Parker family than I do, so I will go with your research. I welcome any and all notes you have and it would be great if you could post them here on PH for we never know just when even a small clue might open a door or break down a wall for another researcher.

  • Wayne,

I think that is my transcription on the bauer.uh.edu website, mediated through Tiffany Nash. Eliza Jane Parker Vaughn was my g-g-grandmother, and we have a photocopy of that letter. Like some other things I did not think so much about in the past, I did not make a note of where this came from. I think it may have come from a cousin who was a descendant of a different son of Eliza than I am, and that it may have been passed down in her family. But I am not sure. Nancy's Willie is who I originally thought was William Lee Lunceford Parker, but I don't see any great way to make that connection now.

Concerning your project about the members of FG#7 that were living in the state of Georgia in early 1800 to mid 1800, I have some notes I made from the microfilm of the Smyrna and White Plains Church minutes. Not great, cause I had to make notes and a few copies and then send it back, but once in awhile it helps me solve something minor, or just adds a bit of flavor to our history. However, there might be something in there that would help.
  • Robert,
I am working a project about the members of FG#7 that were living in the state of Georgia in the early 1800 to the mid 1800 (will post on PH as soon as I finish) when I reread the information about William Lee Lunceford Parker. We have a case of two Parker first cousin being born about the same time and both are named William. See the letter wrote by Letter: Nancy A. Parker Nash to her sister Eliza Jane Parker Vaughn at this link
    https://www.bauer.uh.edu/parks/genealogy/nash.htm#ln

The two William Parker need more research but for now I am going to change back to what was in my file in August, 2021. Wayne

  • Wayne, thanks for taking a look at that and giving your opinion. I appreciate it. I have updated my files accordingly as well.

I will try to find more time to log in here. It is a very nice site.
  • Hi Robert,

This forum is the place we use to bounce a lot of ideas off of each other (I just wish we could get more people involved).
I am glad you posted as this new information to me and after looking a the records I agree with you and I will be updating my files. Again thanks for posting this information. Wayne PS if you have any more bits of information please post.
  • Hi, Wayne,

Thanks so much for responding and sending the information. May I bounce a few ideas off of you to see what you think about them? (I hope this is an OK forum to do so. I have not posted here much.)

After continuing research on the Parker family, I became concerned about the identity of William Lee Lunceford Parker. First, here are two censuses back before W. L. L. married Doska Crow.

    Nancy’s W. L. Parker b. abt. 1852 (initials right)
    1860 DeKalb County, Georgia
1870 Uncertain (some think he is in Griffin, Spalding, Georgia)

    Jeptha’s W. S. Parker b. abt. 1853 (initials wrong)
    1860 Not found
    1870 Rusk County, Texas

One day when I clicked (in Ancestry) on Jeptha’s W. S. Parker in the 1870 census and found they had him linked to the marriage to Doska Crow, where it is transcribed (can’t see the original) as W. S. S. Parker. You can’t trust a lot of those links on Ancestry, but it did get me looking back over this. So here are the bits I found.

In the 1900 DeKalb County census Nancy Parker Nash is listed as having 8 children, only 5 living. We can identify 5 (Julia, Mayfield, Margaret, Thomas, George) which suggests W. L. “Willie” was not living. Same thing in Nancy’s 1916 obit/death notice in the Lawrenceville newspaper (5 surviving children). This might be explained by his moving away and their not knowing what happened to him, but also could be explained by his being dead.

This sent me to my filing cabinet to look through old paperwork. (Unfortunately, 30 and 40 years ago I made many copies without noting where they came from.) I found an old Xerox of what someone wrote listing the children of Jeptha Franklin and Sarah Jane Parker -- which has “Wm. L. L. (Lunce)” as one of their children. Finally, assuming the birth dates on their tombstones are correct (which may not be) Nancy’s Julia and Willie would have been born only 3 months apart. All that is not so much to go on, but it seems to me that I also do not have much to go on as far as him being Nancy’s son either.

I realize information such as birth years, etc. can be notoriously incorrect in censuses. On the other hand, barring possibly a family Bible or something like that, I think censuses, obituaries, and death certificates may be the best we have to go on.

I would appreciate reading any thoughts you might have on this. Thanks!

  • Thanks for this compliation!

I am trying to determine if William Lee Lunceford Parker (1853-1935, buried in Roswell, NM) is the son of Jeptha Franklin Parker and Sarah Jane Jackson. Anyone have information on that? (I believe we have him misidentified on Find-A-Grave.) Thanks.
