Now we have proof that Richard Parker FG#7 of Nansemond Co., VA and Dr. Richard Parker are two different men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A BIG BIG thank you to Bruce Parker of DNA FG#16 for posting his research of his Parker family. His DNA matched him back to Dr. Richard Parker and he is working on the paper trail now.

For many years I have been saying that Richard Parker of Nansemond Co.,VA FG#7 and Dr. Richard Parker were two different men

I have been checking and rechecking my researching on Dr. Richard Parker after Bruce Parker posted his message on the Parker DNA Project page, only this time I was looking at the y-DNA research of both Dr. Dennis West and familytreedna.com. Dr Dennis West started the Parker DNA Project and stayed with it well after after Family Tree started hosting all of the different DNA projects. Dr. West used “P” Numbers to identified the male Parker members who took the y-DNA test instead of our Kit numbers but when Family Tree started hosting the project they went with the kit numbers. Dr., Dennis West left the Parker DNA Parker and later on I joined the Family Tree project as a Co-Admim. When I restarted my research last week, that when I discover today that P394/kit # 295977 was added to group #16 in September 2013. He descends from William Parker, born between 1748 and 1750 in Hunting Creek, Halifx County VA. He was the son of William PARKER and Martha Drucilla COLQUITT. BINGO I had William and Drucilla Parker listed in my Dr. Richard Parker file. So now I have DNA results and a paper trail to back up my claim that my Richard Parker of Nansemond Co., VA FG#7 and Dr. Richard Parker FG#16 are two different men.

  • Wayne, I have some information for you finally on Stephen Parker. As you know we believe he is the father to my 3rd great-grandfather Elvington H. Parker. And this line also ties into Daniel Parker and Major Richard Parker. You asked what information I have. I asked a question or two and you have given me answers. So, I went back to square 1 to gather what I have in terms of documentation on Stephen. Here is what I have on the documents. After this, I will list Dna matches my Ydna cousin matches too, as well as my and my mother's matches descending from Stephen Parker. And hopefully between our matches to DNA on ancestry and matches on FTDNA, we can provide at least some clearer answers. And I hope to try to do targeted requests for participation in Ydna to confirm further matches.

Stephens grandparents are incorrect on the web site. I’m putting this here because I believe the children ARE correct. Every clue helps.

    • OK I am also ready to take another look at you family. I have copy of Daniel E. Parker will.
Do you know of anything about thee family of Stephen Ellington who is listed on the 1830; Census Place: Taliaferro, Georgia; Series: M19; Roll: 20; Page: 355; Family History Library Film: 0007040 and on the same page is Henry Perkins? I ask because I have often wondered were where Elvington H. Parker name came from.
      • Hi Wayne,

I took a look. I see Henry Perkins. Stephen is a few pages back on pg 348. I've never heard a thing about Stephen Ellington, but it is an interesting question. I wish I knew where the name came from too. It was unusual of course until he got it. Then several of the Henry Phillips family members used it as well as the Parker stemming from Henry Phillips and Elvington Parker. I think Kathryn Yow told me about those two being good friends. And they went to Alabama together. Henry T. Phillips married first Elvington’s daughter Mary and she died in 1851, then Henry married Elvington’s daughter Martha. Henry had children with both wives. Having Stephen Parker, Henry Perkins, and Henry Phillips all just pages from each other on the census helps with my thoughts on Stephen as Elvington's father. I hope someday we can unravel where the name came from. But right now I would be happy to prove relationships. Gathering my DNA matches, with documents and will get that to you. I may email that if that's ok. Then if we can conclude it's all good, I can repost it so others can use it here for the group.
        • Elizabeth,
Yes, you can send me e-mails any time.
The reason I asked about Stephen Ellington is because of one of the ways I do my research (out of the box thinking), I use allied families, that is both kinfolks, friends to see where and how long they had been living close to each other and in this case could Stephen Ellington be kin to your Parker family. Yes I have been able to trace and connect people this way. I have learned many "tricks" like this in the 32 years that I have been researching ( boy how time flies when you are having fun). Also one of my theories is that Elvington Parker parents might be Richard T. and Sarah "Sally" Relaford Parker right now it is just a theory.

THIS COMPLETES THE DOCUMENTS I HAVE ON STEPHEN. I have no documentation of the birth or death of Elvington H Parker.
Will give you DNA-related information soon. I want to verify that these are in fact descendants of Stephens's other children. Let me know if you have any questions. This is my main focus on ancestry right now.
Thanks for all you do for all Parkers family group members. You are a true blessing.
  • Wow, this is great news! Another theory proved one way or another! I know this is exciting to discover! Congratulations to you Wayne and Bruce for collaborating!
    • Yes after being able to provide by both DNA and a paper trail had me on cloud 9.
  • Book Following The Land page 9, Richard Parker2 (William Parker1) of Nansemond County, VA is estimated here to have been born circa 1624, in that county. This man has long been claimed as being the Richard Parker, Chirurgeon of Charles City and Henrico Counties, born in Cornwall, England in 1630. This has been ably proven by Waunita Powell in her book, Three Richard Parkers. Dr Parker was in Charles City, County,Va by 1654 and married Mary Perkins, widow of Nicholas Perkins. .... There appears to be no evidence whatsoever that this man ever set foot in Nansemond County, VA. Once again proving the accuracy of Fouts and Powell. Both excellent books. Thank you. And thank you for this forum and for your activities Wayne and for all the other wonderful people who have contributed over the years.
    • Steven, Yes I wish both Waunita Powell and Raymond Parker Fouts were still with us so I could share this information with them as their research has helped me over the years. Also another Parker descendants of Dr. Richard Parker I need to thank is Steve Williamson as he was the one who ask me to take a y-DNA test.
