I know that Mastin Parker was born in NC and we think it was in
Montgomery Co., NC as Mastin had a brother, Garrett Parker. And
there is a William Parker there who md. Margaret Garrett. William and Margaret had sons, William and Garrett and we think this William is the father of Cynthia Parker, b. 1794, James Parker, b. 1796, Mastin Parker, b. 1800, Goodwin Parker, b. 1802, and maybe Garrett in 1804, then Stacy in 1810.
My line goes as this: Mastin Parker md. Jane Kelly, their son, John
Wesley Parker md. Sarah Caudill; their son, Alfred Green Parker
md. Sarah Huff; their son, John Wesley Parker md. Easter Halcomb,
their son, Ernest Hiram Parker md. Mary Ellen Turner from Laurel
Co., Ky. Ernest and Mary Ellen are my parents.
The land that Doswell Rogers deeded to John Parker was actually on Meadow Creek in Grayson Co VA, but was to the same John Parker bn. 1725 who lived in Surry Co NC.
"Sirs, please transfer my survey of 296 acres on Meadow Creek to the surviving heirs of John Parker. Doswell Rogers." 1797.
Doswell Rogers then names the heirs: wife Hannah, sons Samuel, William, John (of course!), Joseph, Joshua, Arthur, and daughter Susannah (who married a Bryant). This information is from Ray Parker of Parker Heritage, Genealogy, Family History, & DNA site online. Ray gives birthdates, but two of the dates for William 1748 and Joseph 1752, are very different from the others born in the 1770's. Makes you wonder if they were of a different generation.
I think your Parker family was already in Knox Co. Ky before my mine got there.
Found this:
"There were 2 Parker clans in Knox and Clay Co. before the War of 1812 - James and Chartolly (Duncan/Dunkin Parker came from NE (?) corner of NC, and one headed by Pleasant Lewis and Sally (Dillard) Parker from VA and SC. All four were born before 1782."
I sent you a message about the marriage and death certificates of Parkers available online on the " Knox Co Ky Genealogy" site, but noticed it didn't show up on this thread. It may be lost in space somewhere! I used the "send message/e-mail" button on this site. Still working on navigation obviously.
Doswell Rogers above deeded land in 1799? to the heirs of a John Parker who lived on the Yadkin River in Surry/Wilkes Co. The question is which John Parker! I'll try to find exact quote and date in my notes and get it to you. When they keep moving, as these guys did, it's hard to keep up with them. It's interesting, though, to find all their connections to longhunters like Daniel Boone and the Crocketts who are their neighbors. Your early Grants and Sherrods are part of the mix, but I think they're both too far back for me to know more about them!
I knew about the Helton connections in Ky, but not the Grant one - how does that go?
Do you know the origin of your middle name Sherrod? My John 1796 married Susan Hammock (her 1st marriage was to Henry C. Ridener/Ridenour in 1852 in Laurel Co.) who was the daughter of William Hammock born abt 1780? and Sarah Brock 1780 who were married Aug. 10, 1801 in Grainger Co Tn.
Grainger was created from Hawkins Co TN, Claiborne came from Grainger, Campbell and Union came from Claiborne, and they are all right there together near the Clinch River and the Ky border. Hawkins Co TN is close to Harlan Co. Ky. so we're talking same area here.
So.. Sarah Brock's father was Moses Brock, and his family includes several Sherrod Brocks. The Brock family in Grainger/Claiborne is DNA connected to Jesse Brock, who was the son of Aaron "Redbird" Brock, Cherokee, of Redbird Creek in Harlan Co. Are there Brocks connected to your Parkers, too?
There is another Parker family in Knox Co that includes Pleasant and Alfred Parker, and a James who married Sarah Dillard - I couldn't find a connection, but maybe I'm wrong.

Ok, enough!
did go to Gray to the Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery in Gray in 2002 to see Parker graves there, but other than that, I don't know anything about Poplar Creek or any other places in Knox/Laurel, Ky. Wish I did. There's a picture of Lucy Parker on this site that my sister Deborah Cunnyngham Boyd put up. She's older though. Many people in my family in TN have the black eye color so distinctive to Native people from East TN, although true, family lore can sometimes be just that. There's also a picture of John Parker Grant (1848) and his family on my cousin Joe Mode's Grant site on Genealogy Trails. Maybe you can see if anybody looks like your family!
