I have been able to trace my ancestry back to a Civil War veteran, Newton Burdette Parker I; I would like to find birth records for him and I believe his father's name was Robert Parker, who I believe started Parker Free Academy in Clarence, NY. Because my father was an ardent Episcopalian, I am trying to find when the first Parker from our line came to America. I originally thought that was William Parker of Hartford, but he was a Puritan, which doesn't exactly fit. William Parker is, however, the name of Matthew Parker's father, Matthew being the Archbishop of Canterbury under Queen Elizabeth. A theory I have is that this group of Parkers fled England during the Commonwealth/Cromwell period, as prominent Episcopalians would have been persona non grata under that regime. I am also wondering if the family name "Newton" harks back to Robert Parker's vocation(?) as a clockmaker honoring a hero of his, or if it might be referring to a place of origin such as "Newtown" CT or "Newton" MA.
