Ray, I want to thank you for writing the book "Following The Land A Genealogical History of Some of the PARKERS of Nansemond County, Virginia, And Chowan/Hertford/Gates Counties, North Carolina 1604-2004."
I highly recommend it as one of the BEST. i use it as a great guide as I try to connect all the members of FG#7 back to our common ancestor William Parker.

Welcome, Forest, I'm glad to hear that old book was helpful to you. I have never made the Native American connection with the Parkers of Indian Neck and Elmwood, either. James' deeds are right on the edge of the Indian lands. my last book on the Parkers in that area is still available through Amazon.com for $25.00 post paid. The title is "Following The Land A Genealogical History of Some of the PARKERS of Nansemond County, Virginia, And Chowan/Hertford/Gates Counties, North Carolina 1604-2004. I'm sorry to say that the late Waunita Powell, departed this life 26 August 2012. She did a excellent job of proving the famous (infamous) Dr. Richard Parker was not the one so often confused with Mr Richard Parker of Nansemond County. That myth took on a life of its own many years ago and is slavishly repeated by people who have not done the necessary research. The good doctor never set foot in Nansemond County, but the one in the above book lived and died there. Some people have made unsubstantiated assertions that I am wrong in that conclusion. I would be most interested in seeing the documented proof of that flat statement, especially from primary sources. The indian lands included what is now known as Merchant's Millpond, Elmwood Plantation and Vivian, NC. Nathan G. Parker, of Indian Neck, was my paternal great-grandfather. Good luck in your research. Thank you for your kind words. Cheers, Ray Fouts
