Quanah Parker - Family History Family history relates that the Elder John Parker family, consisting of Elder John (a Primitive Baptist pastor) and family, and 6 of his Parker brothers with their families travelled from Kentucky in the early 1830's over the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania to Williamsport (now modern day city of Monongahela, Pennsylvania) where they purchased boats, food and trading goods such as whiskey. They then travelled along the Monongahela River to Pittsburgh PA, where they met the Ohio River. They travelled along the Ohio River to Wheeling WV, where one of the brothers and his wife & children settled. The rest of the Parker clan then travelled to an area in modern day Brown County, Indiana where 1 or 2 brothers w/ families settled. They settled in Illinois for a time, where one branch of the family stayed on, while the rest, exhibiting the typical Parker trait of a love to travel, moved on to Texas, where Fort Parker was built. The fort was raided by Comanche Indians in 1836, and captives were taken. One captive was Cynthia Ann Parker, a child. She was raised with the Comanche, married a war chief, Peta Nacona, bore him 3 children, among which the most famous was Quanah Parker, the last War Chief of the Comanche Indian. The Parker Family was a family of pioneers. They were pioneers of the West, forging their way over the Alleghenies to settle in the new West, and they were pioneers of their Faith. Elder John and Elder Daniel Parker were pioneers of the Primitive Baptist faith, as well as pioneers of the American West. James Parker, exhibiting the typical Parker traits of determination, perseverance, and superhuman energy, as well as a very literate, and persuasive man, was influential in the formation of the famous Texas Rangers, in his search and rescue mission for Cynthia Ann Parker from the Comanche. Quanah Parker, the last War Chief of the Comanche, bridging two cultures as his heritage, and bringing peace to his tribe. My 4g James Parker b.1752 and is said to have been born in Connecticut. What is known: 1880 married 15 year old Anna Doty of the Basking Ridge, New Jersey Dotys descended from Edward 'Mayflower' Doty. They married in NJ. He is said to have served in 10 and 16th VA during Rev.War at battles of Monmouth, Cowpens and Blue Lick. Their children were born in present day Kentucky near Lick Creek/Boston. IT was VA back then! From Kentucky it is known the family unit traveled to Butler, Ohio and were joined by other Dotys and Parkers. From there they moved on west and crossed the Wabash near Ft. Allison (Palestine, Illinois-Vincennes, Indiana) -also the Lincoln Trail...From there some moved NW to present day Coles County Hutton/Westfield -also Lincoln Trail. Cynthia Ann was born in nearby Charleston. Several Parker families settled in the area. Have you any idea whether they were close kin or possibly brothers?
