I am descended from John B Parker and Eleanor Tipton. John, born 9/5/1775 in Orange County Virginia. I am trying to ascertain the parents of my John B Parker. He first married Nancy Wood in Halifax County, VA 9/29/1794. He married Eleanor in Wilson County, TN. He died in Pike County, MO 8/6/1856. John B is my GGGG Grandfather through his daughter Elizabeth Parker Crowdis. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

  • Hello,

I am researching the Parker's of Halifax Co. Va. While trying to separate the 3 or 4 different Parker families of Halifax Co. Va.

I came across a book by

Hellen Ball 1783 on Rose/Ayers family and the Parker's.

Now there was a John B. Parker listed in her book. I do not have the book but you can google the Book and get some information.

With out the book you can probably go anywhere with this information. But it says they went to Wilson Co. Tenn first. And that this John B. did marry a Nancy Wood father Thomas Wood.

I wish we could find someone with the Book. So they could more clearly identify this information.

I have found that Drusilla and William Parker who died 1756 in Cumberland Co. VA had son's Daniel, William and Obediah .

In his Will which you can find on line states he give Daniel 400 acres in Halifax Co. Va.  Then in 1769 Drusilla bought land in Halifax Co. along with sons William and Obediah Parker. Obediah Parker died in 1777. His  Will also found on line. I have found the deed for Drusilla Parker.

Now there is a tree on Roots web of Daniel Parker (but a John is not listed. But he could have had son John, as there is a deed of Daniel Parker of Halifax with William and John Parker ca 1793 or 1795 as witness.  Would need to look up if it would be helpful to some on.

It also says that Daniel Parker of Halifax Co. Va had son William Parker and this Wm moved to Dyer Co. and died in 1859 and his Will is also found on line under Dyer. Co. Tenn. The Will mentions nieces and nephews and among them are heirs of John Parker dec'd of Missour.  So possible that this is the John B. Parker is the son of Daniel.   But as always need further research.

Some other evidence of the John B. Parker is from a Book by Rose/Ayres Genealogy: Ann Elizabeth Rose (the Wife of Benjamin Franklin Ball) of Pike County, Missouri, Including Descendants and Related Families, Volume 2

by Hellen Ball 1983 which you can get some information.

Let me know if you need the deeds and etc.

    Hope this will help.

    • Hello,

Found more information that this John B. Parker if not son of Daniel or William Parker. He was very much connected to their family.

      Evidence

William Parker husband of Drusilla Parker had son's Daniel, William and Obediah Parker. These Parker are found as living on Mirey Creek, of Halifax Co. Va.

Obediah died 1777, in Halifax Co. Va. (so this was done before his death. I would have to double check details of his Will for exact date.

21 Aug 1777 Road Order: Humphrey Hendrick appointed Surveyor for the road from Evans

Thanks so his records. We found the William Parker of Mirey Creek, of Halifax Co, Va.
And that this is indeed Drusilla's son, William and married to Ann Hendrick.

Not sure what this Document is but this puts this John B. Parker as living around the William, and Daniel Parker of Mirey Creek! As his witness are Bartlett Crenshaw, and Charles Smith as one of John Hendrick's  son-in -law. Not researched the Thorton Smith, it maybe John grandson.

      Records 1790

12 Dec 1791 Deed: Heirs of John Hendrick, late of Halifax County, decd., to Charles Smith, for

      (Halifax County, VA, Deeds, 15:256)

The documents of the Hendrick's researcher shows proof that Charles Smith was John Hendrick's son in law.

So we have this Document from the Google Book of Rose/Ayers family. With the witness of these same people.

Would like to know what you think. If I have missed something. Will gladly research. I believe these and other records clearly show that Drusilla Colquitt Parker's son as the William Parker married  to Ann Hendrick, daughter of John Hendrick living on Mriey Creek of Halifax Co. Va and not Martha Perrin Cardwell who married a William Parker in Charlotte Co. Va before April of 1780.

      • Hello,

From some research on John Parker of Pike Co. MO

        This is a Google Book

        Jett trails west:genealogical reference book with ... - Page 120Lois M. Jett, ‎Ernest C. Jett - 1996 - ‎Snippet view

They are saying that John Parker married a Eleanor Meredith in Lincoln Co. Ky, April 1834 and that Stephen Jett married Martha Patsy Parker in Pike Co. April 1834.

        1. 1831 in Bowling Green, Pike Co., MO. She died in 1835. Stephen Jett married secondly Martha Parker, a daughter of John Parker and Eleanor Meredith, on 1 April 1834 in Lincoln Co., KY.

This maybe where the confusion comes in. And the idea of this John B.  being the son of Elisha because of the Kentucky marriage.

Check out information on Jett family.

        Hope this helps

        • Thanks for  your replies.  I am going to have to spend some time digesting what you have sent me.  I have been in the hospital, recuperating and then traveling lately so the family tree has taken a back seat.  One question I do have . . .  I have John B Parker as married to Eleanor :"Tipton" not Meredith.  I have found a book on the Tiptons which also noted Eleanor Tipton as married to John B. Parker.  Can you tell me where you found the information on Elenor "Meredith".  Thanks for your help.  I promise to work on matching this data up to mine as soon as I can.  Jeanne Nickel (I go by Jeanne and not my first name, Marva)

          • This information on Meredith came from this book!

I went to google books.com  Jett family!

Hope you are feeling better and this helps with your search!

              • Hello,

I am sorry. I have no idea about this. The Parker's that I have researched are the family connected to the 1Peter Hudson's of Henrico/Lunenburg/Halifax Co. Va.

Edward Parker married Sarah Hudson daughter of 1 Peter Hudson before 1742 in probably listed in Henrico Co. Va. I only know about this John B. Parker because of trying to separate these Halifax Co. Va Parker's.

So far as I can find James is not one of the names of the Difficult Creek Parker's.   Francis Parker moved to Smith Co. Tenn and none of his son's named James. Also a William Parker moved to Smith Co. Tenn. And none of his children name James or Jethro.

                Sorry, wish I could help.

            • Halifax co VA and Halifax Co NC.  Wonder if the PARKER in both of these counties are related.  I know some of the PARKER relations in Halifax Co NC went to Franklin Co GA, Charity PARKER who married Mr Jones, went to Franklin Co GA and got her brother James or William PARKER from Halifax co NC who died, part of his estate.  His estate, James or William PARKER was divided up by many relations which I posted.  Wonder if these people connect with yours in halifax Co VA.  See post 24746 of Genforum.genealogy.com.   Thanks for your help.  Especially interested in a Robert PARKER if you come accross that name in Halifax Co VA

  • Your John is an old ancestor. It might be helpful to list his children and their dates, places, children. Mike
    • As Michael suggested I am entering additional infordmation on the descendants of John B Parker.  Hope this helps find out who his parents were.  For some reason I have Elisha Parker.  Not sure where this came from and am fairly sure it is not correct..
