Parker Family of Ashe County, North Carolina

I hope this finds you well. I am James Parker. Direct descendant of the Parkers of Ashe County, North Carolina. For the past four years, I have been stuck at my fifth-great-grandfather, Jesse Parker (1805 NC- 1871 Ashe County, NC). He lived on in North Fork which is located in the Creston area of Ashe; directly next to Mountain City, TN. I have my ancestors accounted for from Jesse downward. Alas, I have not found Jesse's parents. Family tradition states that his father was a man named Nathan (or William) Parker, born in England, and settled in Guilford County, NC sometime after the Revolutionary War. (sigh) I have found no evidence for Nathan or William Parker. I hope that someone on this site may have information regarding the Parkers of Ashe County and our origins before Ashe. My Parker family became rather small and now consists of many, unknown, cousins, but no other Parker relatives other than my immediate family. Through FTDNA, I belong to Parker FG#7.

Cheers very much!

James Parker

  • Hi, James. I think you contacted me through Find A Grave about Jesse as well. He's my 3rd great grandfather. I too am continuing the search. We're all in this together!
    • Yes, it must have been me. Good to see you on here, Cynthia (if I may). I have contacted a hand-full of older generations who's grandparents are Jesse's grandchildren or great-grandchildren. According to their family tradition, Jesse's father is a man named Nathan (or William) Parker who was born in England; sometime around 1750. After the Revolution, Nathan (or William) settled in Guilford County, NC wherein Jesse was born. Jesse then settled in Ashe around the early 1830s. The majority of people claim that his name was Nathan. However, I have a copy of a "family history" letter penned by Wilburn Parker, son of Jonathan Lewis Parker (Jonathan being Jesse's son), stating that Jesse's father was named William and was Scotch-Irish. (DNA testing has been completed. The Parkers are English through-and-through. Nevertheless, this is the oral history I have gathered. To much annoyance, I have yet to find anything on this Nathan or William (if that is indeed Jesse's father's name). Please do keep me posted on any advancements you may make! I can be best reached via email: jpjimmyparker@gmail.com.
      Cheers!
      Have a great weekend,
      James
  • James, I have researched my Parker line since 1983, also a Family 7. I have made progress but not sure I will ever make closure. I will not stop the search! Wayne Parker has a large #7 tree which you need to review, it can be found here. Mike
    • Great to hear from you, Michael! I have been in contact with Wayne for quite some time now. Though he has an impressive collection, my line is no where to be found within his tree.
