Parker Family FG#7 in early GA

I have been researching and working on the Parker families that lived in early Georgia again The main focus this time will be on DNA Parker Family #7 using both y-DNA matches and paper trails.

Earlier this year I started with this statement made by James Conn Parker.

Matthew E. Parker (1812-1885) in SC & GA Posted by: James C. Parker Date: August 12, 1999

“I'm seeking the parents of Matthew E Parker (1812-1885) who married Charity B. __?__. Matthew is my gg grandfather. He was born in SC and according to the census his father was born in NC and his mother in SC. Although his name is on a list of mail held in the "dead letter" office in Athens, GA in 1839, I first find him already in GA as the head of a household in Gwinnette Co. in 1840, then on the 1845 state census for Forsyth Co. and the 1850-1880 in Gordon Co., GA. I have never been able to find Charity's maiden name or her parents either. I've been searching for this info. for many years. I'd love to hear for anyone else working on this line or get some suggestions about what to do next.” After reading this post I decided that I need to review my Georgia research. Since I have been trying to find the Parker ancestors of Dr. Michael R. Parker and his cousin James Conn Parker and since Athens is in Clarke County, GA, that county would be where I would start.

So I needed a plan that would do at least three thing; (1) Create a list by census years of known counties in Georgia where DNA Parker FG#7 families lived. This list would include both DNA test results and paper trails of FG#7. (2) I also wanted to use this research to recheck my own genealogy research of many years. (3) Provide additional Parker families to be research.

This post is a very short summary of my on going project. This is not a complete list of FG#7 members that lived in GA by any means. At this time I will only list a few counties for each census year that I cover.

I will also address the information or misinformation about about the family of John Parker FG#7 who married Nancy Folsom or Fulsom on Sep 7, 1819 in Hancock Co., GA and their son Elijah Parker who died on April 07, 1876 in Guntown, Lee County, Mississippi.

The 1820 Clarke County, GA census list 7 Parker families Aaron Parker, Sr. FG#7 and his sons West Parker, Aaron Parker, Jr, John Parker, William Parker, two other Parker families live there also William C. Parker and Allen Parker. I have not tried to research these two families yet.

The 1820 Gwinnett County, Georgia census list three Parker families, Rev. Isaiah Parker FG#7 ( 1774-May 1861), Stephen Parker (who is listed as living next to Isaiah, no research yet) and George P Parker (no research yet)

The 1820 Hancock Co., GA census list 6 Parker families John Parker FG#7 ( after reviewing this census I was able to correct my file and found the answer to a mystery that had bugged me for years and only to find that I had the answer all the time right there in my file) , His son Lewis Parker, Sr. FG#7 and grandson Lewis Parker, Jr. (FG#7), Richard T. Parker (FG#7) and Richard son William Parker(FG#7), William Parker (no research yet)

The 1820 Washington County, GA census list 5 Parker families. Ica Parker FG#7, James Parker FG#7. Kader Parker (no research yet but Kader/Cader is a name that is connect to Ica family as well as FG#7), Jos Parker and Henry Parker (no research yet)

The 1820 Greene County, GA list 4 Parker families. Emanuel Parker FG#7, David Parker FG#7,Mrs. Dicy Parker (no research yet), Dempsey Parker (no research yet).

=========================================================================.

The 1830 census of Clarke Co., GA list 4 Parker families. West Parker FG#7, William Parker FG#7, John Parker FG#7 and James Parker FG#7.

The 1830 census of Gwinnett Co., GA does not list any Parker families.

The 1830 census of Hancock Co., GA listed 3 Parker families. John Parker FG#7, Lewis Parker (no research yet) and Elizabeth Parker (no research yet).

The 1830 census of Randolph Co., GA list 2 Parker families Ica and James Parker FG#7.

The 1830 census of Greene Co., GA list 1 Parker family Emanuel Parker FG#7

=========================================================================.

The 1840 census of Clarke Co., GA list 1 Parker family William Parker (no research yet but he may be part of FG#7 ),

The 1840 census of Gwinnett Co., GA list 3 Parker families. Mary Parker and her two sons Daniel FG#7 and Matthew Parker FG#7.

The 1840 census of Hancock Co., GA list 1 Parker family. Mildey Parker. This is Milly East Parker the wife of John Parker FG#7 who died about 1835 in Hancock Co., GA

John Parker FG#7 who married Nancy Folsom or Fulsom on Sep 7, 1819 in Hancock Co., GA and their son Elijah Parker who died on April 07, 1876 in Guntown, Lee County, Mississippi.

First some background information about Elijah Parker. I became interested in Elijah back in the early 1990’s as I was researching my Parker family in Mississippi, I found some information that I copped about his family and put it in my huge paper file. Fast forward to about 2015 when I read a report that his descendant had wrote about John Parker the father of Elijah Parker. The report said John Parker died in MO when he was attacked and kill by the Indians. They said that since he was a son of Elder John Parker FG#5, Elder John Parker send John wife Nancy Folsom Parker and their son Elijah Parker back to Mississippi.

After one of Elijah Parker descendant had his y-DNA tested and found out that he matched into FG#7, the researchers of this family are having a hard time understanding the Elder John Parker connection and have some questions about John and Nancy Folsom.

The Parker researcher of both FG#5 and FG#7 have found that members of both DNA groups lived close to each and often traveled and move together from the 1800’s till today.

This is what I have found. I believe that the John Parker who married Nancy Folsom on Sep 7, 1819 in Hancock Co., GA is the son of John Parker who died Abt. 1835 in Hancock Co., GA and his first wife (name unknown). John Parker was the stepson of Milly East and had two known full sisters. Margaret Parker who marries James Potter and Charity Parker who married Burgess Tillman and he also had some half brothers and sisters.

The parents of Nancy Folsom were John Folsom and Tabitha Kelly. They are listed on the following census records.

1820 U S Census; Census Place: Hancock, Georgia; Page: 98; NARA Roll: M33_7; Image: 103

Year: 1830; Census Place: Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia; Series: M19; Roll: 19; Page: 289; Family History Library Film: 0007039.

Year: 1840; Census Place: Pontotoc, Mississippi; Roll: 218; Page: 151; Family History Library Film: 0014842 John Folsom died in Union County, Mississippi in 1841.

Tabitha Kelly Parker was listed in the 1850; Census Place: Pontotoc, Mississippi; Roll: 380; Page: 179a and she died in 1857.

Their grandson Elijah Parker is listed on the following census records.

Year: 1850; Census Place: Pontotoc, Mississippi; Roll: 380; Page: 179A

Year: 1860; Census Place: Pontotoc, Mississippi; Page: 629; Family History Library Film: 803590

Elijah Parker great-grandson was named Eligah Folsom “Lige” Parker, Sr.

I still don’t have the answer to the question to who is the father of Daniel and Matthew Parker so the hunt goes on.

  • Wayne, I am trying to identify as many Parker I can in the Gates County, Tax Records. Daniel Parker 1784 Gates County, North Carolina Tax Record, who is this man. He seems to not be the Daniel Parker in the 1791 Tax Record, or the 1790 Census. Perhaps I am wrong, please let me know what you or anyone else thinks. Also very interesting your theory on Daniel Parker son Robert Parker as the father of Jesse Parker. I believe I have found on the early Robert Parkers in the Gates County, North Carolina Tax Record. Robert son of Robert, Robert son of Dempsey, and Robert son of Richard Parker.
    • Steven,
Information about the different Daniel Parker of Gates Co., NC

Daniel Parker born about 1750 (son of Luke Parker) was named in his grandfather Daniel Parker (FG#7) will written 30 Nov 1780, probated May 1781 in Gates Co., NC because Luke had died before 30 Nov 1780. Needs to be researched as this is all that I know about this Daniel Parker.

I haven't been able to prove or disprove my theory on Robert the son of Daniel being the father of Jesse Parker. So right now I am listing the father of Robert Parker and the grandfather Jesse Parker as unknown.
  • Very interesting. Thanks!
  • Wayne I would like for you to take a look at my family tree on Ancestry. My William Parker was married to Edith Lindsey ....William from NC and Edith from SC. Thank you! Deborah Parker Collard
    • Happy to! I am very busy running the B&B and taking care of husband's illness. Will email you as I can and will communicate with you via that method. Thanks!
      • Thanks Deborah,
I know all about health problems as both my wife and I had our share lately and I am happy to report that we both are doing a lot better now.

    • Deborah,
I have studying your family tree on Ancestry and I have some questions but I will start with just three today. (1) Tell me about the DNA tests and the results. Tell me more about the doc that you want me to look at." Also I have saved several docs that may require you to view the gallery associated with that person" (2) I notice that you have included Matthew E. Parker as a son of William and Edith Parker. Is this the same Matthew E. Parker that has a proven DNA match with FG#7 or is he a different person and why is he listed as a half brother? (3) Can you send me the information about "The Parker family on Fold3 under the Cherokee Application of Jasper Newton Parker. Jasper states that he is the youngest of 13 children" to my e-mail waynenparker@yahoo.com so I can study this information.

      Wayne
    • Deborah,
i am only on the free part of Ancestry so you will have to send me an invite waynenparker@yahoo.com Note: the n between wayne and parker or it will go to another Wayne Parker.
I am posting an outline of the information about your family that I have in my file.
      Wayne

      • Wayne there will be some changes as DNA tests have proven..in some of the later gens. You will find those on my tree. Also I have saved several docs that may require you to view the gallery associated with that person 😀
    • Wayne there is a wealth of information on The Parker family on Fold3 under the Cherokee Application of Jasper Newton Parker. Jasper states that he is the youngest of 13 children. That I believe indicates that William could be the father of several SC to GA Parker Lines.
