Looking For Oklahoma Parkers

My grandfather was from Wetumka, OK. He and siblings and parents moved to California during the draught in the 30's, where he met and married my grandmother Marie E. Vertrees. He said we were related to Quanah Parker and even spoke of family dinners with him. Can anyone help me?

  • Hi Lisa!

You say you have relatives that came to California during the draught?  I'm told my grandmother lived in the desert above Los Angeles in 1968.  I don't have her name.  Do you have any William Parkers from your line that were in California at that time?  (I'm still looking for my father).

  • All I can give you is my grandfather lived in Oklahoma during the beginning of the dust bowl days, around Mt. Veiw & Saddle Mt. area. His name was William Luster Parker. I believe he was born around Bath or Rowan County, Kentucky, some where around the year of 1876. I know he was named after a William & a Luster realtive, but at this point & time not sure which ones. He moved back to Kentucky during the main part of the dust bowl in OK, and later moved back to OK where he lived until he died in Dec. 1949. That's where he is buried with my grandmother Emma Clay Steele/Parker. Do either of these names ring a bell?

  • don"t know if this will help you but i know we started out there and at FT .Smith Ar . My name is Dwayne Paker my Dad is james are Jim his dad was Jack
  • I would like to introduce myself. Curtis Alan Parker. I am 47 yrs old and believe I am a gr gr grandson of Quanah. My grandfather's name was Frank and his dad's name was John, so I'm told. That's all I know. I stumbled across this site and would love to put some of the pieces together if anyone can help. Thanks, Al
    • Curtis, We would need more information in order to assist you. What were their full names dates/places of birth, marriage, and death? What were the full maiden names of the wives? Any thing elsew you have that came out of their bibles, obituaries, etc.
  • I have seen other researchers trees that have Nathaniel Parker, and Ann Clayton as Quanah's GR GR Grandparents. They are also supposed to be Elisha Parker's grandparents, if that is true then Elisha would be Silas Parker's cousin, Silas is Quanah's Grandfather. I don't know for sure who the father of Elisha Parker is, i have hit a wall trying to figure that out. I need to correct my first reply George Rice Parker died in 1883 not 1879.
    • My mom is still convinced that we are somehow related to Quanah. She has seen many pictures of Quanah and in many pictures there is a very strong resemblance to my grandfather. I have to admit that I see it in some pictures too. Do you or anyone know how the Parker DNA test thing works? My mother is very interested in seeing if it is possible to get a DNA test to see if we are related. Is that possible? If it is, how much would something like that cost? She realizes that we still would not know how we are related if it were a positive match. We are all still very curious based on the things that my grandfather & his siblings used to say.
      • DNA Tests for males are discussed at the Parker DNA Test online at

        http://web.utk.edu/~corn/parkerdna/

In Family Group 5, you will see results from two proven descendants of Elder John Parker.

Someone who claims he descends from Quanah took the test - his test number is P43. But I seriously doubt he is. A male descendant would not match any Parker - it would match Peta Nocona and Pohibit-Quasha (called Iron Shirt). I have asked a Quanah descendant to take the test but as yet he has not or has not allowed the results to be made public.

The Parker Family DNA test is "group discounted". I would recommend a minimum of the 67- marker test but no less that the 37*marker test.

DNA tests for females are called mtDNA and would only go from daughter to mother, to mother's mother.

I sincerely wish you luck in your quest.
