Just Starting!

Hi my name is Joseph F Strange, I am from the Amos Parker d. 1800 (m) Mary Farlee from Northhampton, NC blood line. From there it goes here to Tennessee, 5 generations later my grandmother Flora Myrtle Parker of Claiborne Co.. She married Bradford Strange, had 7 children, the 5th Mickey J Strange my father. So if anyone has any info please help!

  • Hello, Joseph Strange - Is it your research goal to find the five generations before your Flora Myrtle Parker? The following may be a start:
Flora's father may have been Ovilee Parker 1889 and mother Bessie unknown 1895-1980.
Ovilee's father may have been Ezra or Izra R. (Rhem)? Parker and Mary Harrell, both born in 1850s

Let me know either way if these are familiar, and I will look again. Any additional details on those five generations will be helpful.
Is/was your mother Linda Sue Scearcy(sic)? There seem to be as many Strange families in Tennessee as there are Parker families.:)
So you think you may have Melugeon ancestors? They are a very interesting, handsome, and somewhat unknown group, so I look forward to learning more about them with you.

    • Yes mom is Linda Sue Scearce great granddaughter of John & Matilda Scearce of Thorn Hill, Tn. As far as the Stranges I have hit  wall. Nobody whose living knows anyone past my great grandparents Issac Franklin & Bessie Susan Lewis Strange from Rankin, Cocke Co., Tn. And I haven't been able to find a paper trail yet. As far as the Parker's I have Orvalee's father as Izra & Mary L. Parker, then Izra's parents Faith Parker (m) ?,then his parents Samuel D. & Sally Beckerdite Parker, Samuel had 10 siblings, their parents were Amos & Mary Farmer Parker of Northampton, NC in late 1700's - early 1800's.

  • Hi Joseph!

Welcome to Parker Heritage! I suppose I am probably the one to talk to about your Parker heritage, since I wrote and compiled a 1200+ page, two volume book on this line, in 2010. This line is in Parker Family Y-DNA Group #1.Thank you for introducing yourself to all of us! You descend from Samuel Parker, who is a younger brother to my great great grandfather, Lemuel Parker. I do not know if there is a middle name for Samuel or not. I have never seen documented proof, but it could be so. As far as seeing who else you are kin to in this line, you would need to purchase my book to find out. I'm sure not every single person in this line is represented in my book. That would be pretty difficult to do. Four years have passed since I completed the book, and many folks have had more babies, or gotten married since then. I have not been able to ascertain just who our immigrant to the US, was. I think it goes back to a Thomas Parker, but I have no definitive proof. Last October, I was able to add more family members to Mary Farlee's line. I already knew her parents were James Farlee and Rachel , and found her maiden name was Luton. I found her father's bio online! I found out that James Farlee was a colonial captain. Captain James Farlee, of Chowan Co., NC, with 189 men under him, including Amos Parker, who married his daughter, Mary. There is much to tell you. My email is bryantjr@pacbell.net, if you want to email me. I'm glad you found Parker Heritage. There are others who are kin to us on this site. I hope to hear from you. Feel free to ask lots of questions! I know there are others on this site who might be able to add more details to your tree, and I know you can supply a goodly amount too! The best, Kathy Jo Bryant

    • How much is your 2 volume book on Amos Parker. Is the Amos Parker in the Gates County, North Carolina Tax List 1784-1811 and maybe later your Amos Parker. 4 Amos Parker in the Census. Also a Thomas Parker by this Amos Parker.
    • Thanks so much for your time and info. At this time I'm not able to afford your book. I'm a recently layed-off father of 4 kids, 2 of which are special needs, and a 5th on the way. As soon as I can I'll try to purchase it. My main concern is the direct line back from Amos. I figured him also being one of your grandparents it would be easily accessible for you to pass on. As far as the rest of the tree at this time isn't the focus of my search I can always come back to that. I've just had a lot of family members pass on lately. It got me wondering my ancestry. And when I realized how hard to retrieve this info I wanted to gather as much as I could for my children/grandchildren so they would know as much as possible of their roots. But anyway glad to talk to you and again thanks so much for the info & invitation to further our new bond.   Sincerely Joseph F Strange
