I am trying to get past, or shall I say, in front of, Benjamin Lewis Parker's family. I have not been able to find his parents in areas that I have searched. I have tried birth records, wills, deeds, census records, Library of Virginia, etc, with little success. Short of visiting the court house in Halifax, I don't know where else to search? Does anybody have any good suggestions?

Hi Janet,
B.L. Parker was my g-g-grandfather. My line is through his daughter, Drucilla. The reason you are not finding anything about Benjamin Lewis in Virginia is because he was born in Tennessee. The only places I can find this mentioned is in the 1880 Halifax Co. Va. census, and In one of the census- 1900, I think, Drucilla reports that her father was born in Tennessee. I spent 3 weeks last summer at the Halifax Co. Courthouse. There are MANY Parker documents there. Unfortunately, many of these aged papers are only handled through a genealogist, who was there only a couple days a week. Great help, though, and the staff there is wonderful!! I'm very interested in your family line. This is the first time I've been at this site for a good while. I'm from Va. Hope to hear from you! Regards! Emily C. Simmons
