Parkers of Neshoba and Yazoo County, Mississippi

I am seeking information on my grandmother's Parker family. Her grandfather James Shelton Parker was born in South Carolina and the family migrated through Georgia to Alabama, where he married Mary Ingram. The couple lived at Hill's Bluff in Neshoba County, where Shelton Parker operated a trading post on the Pearl River. Family lore says that he was killed in the War Between the States. After the war, his widow, some of his sons and a daughter relocated to Yazoo County. Shelton's son, my great-grandfather Washington Monroe Parker, lived in what is now Humphreys County. The family was poor and of necessity bound to the land where they sharecropped. My grandmother, Alice Parker Lick, always wanted to know her relatives in the next county, but never had an opportunity to meet them. Her relatives lived in the Bentonia area and some of them are buried in the Dover Cemetery. I would like to correspond with another Parker descendant.

Son of James Shelton Parker and Mary Ingram

Grandson of John M. Parker and Jane Shelton
