For almost one year he served as acting Postmaster in place of the Postmaster who was absent due to illness. He retired in 1972. Otis was very active in church work. He was a member of West Rome Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendant, Deacon, Chairman of Deacons, Chairman of Building Committee, Treasurer, and a number of other capacities.
