Who was the father of Peyton aka Paton Parker?

I thought I had my Parker line all figured out. Now I have to start at the beginning because I am confused. :). Here is what I think I know.John Peyton Parker was the father of my great grandmother. Her death certificate says she was born abt 1868 In Parkerstown, La. Her mother per oral history was Cherokee Indian (from Georgia). My 2x great grandmother , Sallie, is listed on the 1870 census with Sarah Parker. With her are her two kids. Jane, my great grandmother is listed as Nancy. They live next door to Aaron F Parker who is Sarah's son in Forksville, La. Sally is a domestic servant. In 1880 Sallie and kids are living in Ward 7 and with her are her two kids, Jane and Henry. Sarah is living in Ward 3 with her daughter in law. Also in Ward 3 is her son sons Aaron and John P and her grandson, John P Parker, jr. Sarah Hopkins Parker , the widow of Peyton/Paton Parker dies in 1886 at the home of her son. This is where I am now confused. Who was Peyton/Paton's father? I think it is West Parker. But now I am finding that there could be another West Parker. I need help sorting this out. Please.

  • Some more information. 1830 Census for Peyton PARKER, Duprees, Talbot Co, GA, page 340. 3 males under 5 and male 20-30 and female 20-30. Probably Payton PARKER who is the father of Payton PARKER and Aaron Franklin PARKER, and Marion PARKER. Clarke Co GA marriage for Sarah Hopkins and Payton PARKER, 26 Feb 1823.
  • Looked at the 1870 Census and Sally age 23 is listed as black. Nancy PARKER age 5 listed as Mulatto. Henry PARKER age 3 listed as Mulatto. You wrote Payton married an Indian woman. Also went to the 1850 Census looking for Aaron F PARKER as a 20 year old living with his father and came up with Payton PARKER father, and Sarah PARKER mother of Franklin PARKER age 20, Payton PARKER age 23 and Marion PARKER male age 25. The 1850 Slave schedule for Payton PARKER listed one young black slave family with children half a year old, and another number, single digit probably 6 or less could not read. Also listed was a 13 year old female. Male 26 and Female age 22 above the other slaves, so guessing this is a family of 4. Now did Payton jr marry or not marry a black or Indian. Don't know. However it is my belief that there are many more Mulatto's than people think because of all the listings of M for Mulatto in the Census. Interesting to note also that they use the I for Indian in the 1870 Census. Probably more Indian heritage also. Now whether there was more consent given is another debate. The numbers do show more Mulattos than people think though in the Census. Take the Ancestry Test to determine, black or Indian blood.
