  • Your father much more likely James Parker and Mariah Pierce, 1850 Census, Dekalb County, Georgia. This information from the Census and Familysearch.org. Harriett Annis Parker from FamilySearch.org. Aaron Parker born in North Carolina from all the Censuses. Your Ancestor born in Georgia from the 1880 and 1900 Census, this is for James Aaron Parker who died after 1900 Census.
  • Kathleen,
We all were amateur at one time and I will let you in one a "secret" no matter how experience that I have, each day that I research I learn some new.
Now back to your Aaron Parker family. I have been doing some more research since my last post. After rereading the info in my file below, I ONLY have 13 children listed. I need to find out who is missing.
Also your James A. Parker born about 1834 maybe a grandson of Aaron because on the 1840 census Aaron Parker does not show any males listed as being under the age of 10 1840 census Henry Co., GA page 342 2 males 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 50-60, 2 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 50-60

I found this article in the Daily Constitution, Atlanta, Feb.5,
1881. Does anyone have the 14 children or any additional information for this Aaron Parker? I could not locate the "previous" article mentioned.
    Thanks,

    Mr. Aaron Parker, whose death was mentioned in the Panola dots in our last issue, was in many respects a most remarkable man. He was born in Hancock county November 12, 1788, and was therefore 92 years and nearly two months old at the time of his death, January 5, 1881. He bought land in Henry county immediately after its purchase from the Indians, in 1812, and had lived on the same place until his death. He was a citizen of Rockdale at his death having been cut off into that county at its formation. He raised a large family and left descendants as far as the fourth generation, numbering in the aggreate 281 souls. Of this number, fourteen were his own children, the youngest of whom had four grandchildren living at the time of the gentleman's death;
116 were grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

So you see we have to get a little information from here and a little from there and the first thing you know we have something.
Also I am checking out your Veal family connection to the Parker family (as they appear to be several Parker and Veal connections)
So keep looking and I will post some more as I find it.

  • I'm an amateur so be gentle with me!
  • Thanks Kathleen for the information, I will take another look.

  • Ps, they are on an 1860 Georgia census.
  • Wayne ; I don't have any proof but my great grandmother, Susie Parker (married to Orrin) remembered Maza, Jane's wife. My dad interviewed her for family information.
  • Hello Kathleen Michael,
Back on May 22, 2017 I ask you the following questions. The reason that I ask them is I have not seen the connection between your James A. Parker and Aaron Parker.
NOTE: I am not saying there is no connection just that I need your input to help me.

“I am a member of FG#7 and I have enclosed the following information from census records on your Parker family.
I have some questions that I hope you can answer.
    (1) What census record is your James A. Parker located on in 1850?
    (2) Could you tell me how you make the connection back to Aaron Parker and could you tell me more about your Aaron Parker,”

    Thanks,
    Wayne N. Parker

Rockdale County, GA Then and Now: The Parker House

Top: From the Vanishing Georgia archives. Image roc105. Rockdale County, 1979. This home was built around 1830 by Aaron Parker, Jr. It is located at what is now 4825 Flatbridge Road and is believed to be the oldest house in the county. At the time the photo was taken the owner was Mrs. Freeman Alexander.

Bottom: March 23, 2010. The house and surrounding area is now part of Panola Mountain State Park.

I found this interesting history: The Parker House is significant in the area of exploration and settlement because it represents early white settlement along the western edge of the Georgia frontier in the 1820s and 1830s. In 1822, Aaron Parker, Jr. and his wife Margaret, moved from Clarke County to land between Panola Mountain and the South River in present-day Rockdale County. Parker, a veteran of the War of 1812, purchased three land lots between 1822 and 1830. He built his house about 1830 as the centerpiece of a large plantation that by 1850 included over 2,700 acres and was worked by 15 slaves. After his death in 1881, the property was divided among his 13 children with daughter Francis A. Rowan receiving the house. The house passed to seven more owners between 1909 and 1991, when the property was developed as the Southerness Golf Club. In 2004, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources purchased the Southerness tract, to include it in the Panola Mountain State Conservation Park.
