For FG#5, P258

My name is Gary Parker- P441.  I see on the YDNA Results that your test identifies your Ancestor as Richard Parker, abt 1785 VA.  My 67 places me a Genetic Distance of 2 from Richard.  I am hoping that you might have identified a brother of Richard since my test revealed a probable 2nd cousin.  Any help would surely be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Hi Monica! This is Gary. My number is P441, P258 belongs to Janelle Parker-Schneider (Admin). Before Big Y-500 and Y-700, Richard was the closest genetic distance of 2 with me so that's where I concentrated my efforts of trying to connect the dots. Unfortunately, there was little success. Since the Big Y tests, I have matched another gentleman at a much closer time-line (colonial period). If more of our FG#5 family men folk were able to get the Big Y-700 added to their 111 STR test we could create a large branch on the Y tree. Hopefully this COVID-19 isn't hurting to many of our cousins and X-mas, with FTDNA's SALES, they may be able to splurge and open up the many different lines and connections in the group. If I come upon anything new I will surely post. Be safe.
  • Hello Gary! I believe that Richard Parker (born in VA 1785) is my 4th great grandfather. I am at a road block with him, but I might be able to fill in a few blank spots for you...
Richard Parker - b. 1785 possibly in Culpeper, VA
Married Sarah Williams in 1808 in Harrison Co. VA
A Thomas Cottrill is listed as his guardian on the marriage record.
Richard lived in Parkersburg, VA for some time.
Richard moves to Pleasant, Allen, Indiana in or around 1840 and purchased 160 acres of land (May 10, 1848)
Richard & Sarah had 4 sons:
    Thomas Parker
    Wellington Parker
    Nathaniel Parker
    George Washington Parker
Between 1845-1849, Thomas Parker (my 3rd great grandfather) emigrated to Michigan, which started my Parker lineage in Michigan.

No matter how hard I try, I cannot conform who Richard Parker’s parents are. He may have been an orphan? This is quite a mystery!

    I hope this helps!
