David Parker, 1764-1851 RI>MA>VT

My oldest known is David Parker.  According to his Revolutionary War Pension, he was born 1 Apr 1764 in Scituate, Providence, RI.  In 1777, he went with his father, name not stated, to Adams, Berkshire, MA.  He enlisted in the MA militia, and served from 1779-1781.  In 1785 he went to Ira/Clarendon/Middletown Springs, Rutland, VT.  He died 3 Oct 1851 in VT.  His 1st wife was Lydia Thornton, daughter of Stukely and Anna Colvin.  His known brothers were William and Peter.  They fought in the RI line.  His known children are Calvin C(olegrove), William, Stukely Thornton, Anna (Hannah), and possibly Squire.  His 2nd wife was widow Betsey White.

I have looked at land records, church records, tax records, census records, location histories, military records.  I've never had much luck with newspapers.  I haven't found any court records or wills.  I have done autosomal DNA.  My kits at gedmatch are

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ann Marie Parker Thompson

  • Will do! I am also a Daughter! Working on my Parker sode of the family. I entered under Robert Field, but I am really close to submitting my supplemental On Robert Parker (1735-1816) DAR Patriot #A087756) thru his son Solomon Parker (1778-1834), then som William P. Parker (1810-1897), then James Higgins Parker (1836-1923), then William Walter Parker (1866-1948), then Marion Francis Parker (1896-1972), then my father James Campbell Parker (1936- ).
  • HI Mary, I am a member of DAR, and have done papers for David, so he is an approved patriot. I hoped that y-DNA testing would provide some answers, but so far it hasn't. If anyone knows of any descendants of Paul Parker, please send him my way! Thanks!
  • His brother Peter seems to have been a character, you might try looking for him. Some other mentions:

  • Always take these with a grain of salt.

  • Have you tried searching the Daughters of the American Revolution website. Go to DAR.org and then to the genealogy section and search by his name under the Ancestor tab.
  • Richard thanks for the info. I appreciate any help I can get but I already had that since I found out she was the wife of David Parker and I had his FAG info
  • Hey Ann Marie...I really dont have any info to collaborate. I just found out today that Anna Parker was married to Jabez Colvin. Are you on FB? If so, add me as a friend with Mary Beth Lyford. I can give you descendents of Anna but I have not tried to go back as of yet. That is great you got David into DAR...now I can try for a membership under his name.
  • Hi Mary, so good to hear from you! If you're interested in comparing notes, or collaborating, anything like that, I'd be interested. I don't know where else to look. I would love to learn more about the brothers Peter and especially William. The only mention I've ever seen of him is in Peter's pension, but I don't know a thing about him. The DNA hasn't proven useful either. I did get David into DAR 2 years ago. I'm not sure I'll ever get his father in law, Stukely Thornton in. The evidence is so circumstantial, I just don't think it'll fly. Of course my goal in life is to find out David's parents. I just don't know what else to do. I'll never give up though. Ann Marie
