PARKERS GEORGIA & ALABAMA

My Alabama link is Elvington H Parker, traveling to Alabama around 1850's with Henry T Phillips.  Both were born circa 1810 and traveled from Georgia along the Federal Road.  Looks like they were in Merriweather and Troup Counties for a few decades but did not survive the end of the Civil War.  I assume both are buried in Alabama somewhere.  Last located in Marengo County, Alabama in 1860.  The Parkers and Phillips appeared to travel back and forth from Georgia and Alabama for many years.

I live in Richmond VA but was born in Suffolk VA lived in Winsor when I was born. My dad's family is in Isle of Wight area
  • I have James W Parker on my Ancestry page he went to Virginia after the War. I do not have the name of the wife that you are descended from (Molly). My ancestor Henry Phillips was married to Mary Parker then Martha Parker both daughters of Elvington. Henry’s youngest child born during the Civil War was a War orphan and it is a miracle he survived. His name was Thomas Elvington Phillips, he died in 1922 and is buried in a historic cemetery in Selma, Alabama. He did not know his family and was illiterate.
  • Hi Kathryn,
I descend from James W Parker and his 2nd wife Mary Molly Duke. From James then Theophilus and Hattie Mae Norris. Then James Fenton Parker and Mabel Lee Hatfield. After the Civil war James W Parker settled in Isle of Wight County Virginia and married numerous times.

  • Hi Kathryn,

I was wondering if you've had a chance to look at the notes for Elvington referred to in the message below. please feel free to email me at mamawgreen@verizon.net. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks again

  • Hi Liz,

He died during the war. Those that did not die from the conflict often died of disease or scare food supplies. Elva, as he apparently was called, had 2 daughters married to the same Phillips ancestor. I will have to search my notes and get back to you but yes I have had luck with my search. The name Elvington has fascinated me for a long time.

    More later,

  • Kathryn,

Hello, Elvington H Parker is my 3rd great grandfather. Marengo Co., is also that last known place I have for him as well. I have not found a death confirmation of any kind as well. Which one of the children of Elvington and Thomaston do you descend from? Elvington and his wife both seemed to have disappeared completely before the war ended. How far back do you go prior to Elvington? WIlling to share any information I have. Please email me at mamawgreen@verizon.net. Exciting to see someone who has actually referred to this name!

    Respectfully,

    Liz Green
