William Parker - Sarah Hartwell

I am researching William Parker who married Sarah Hartwell in Campbell County, Kentucky in 1818.  Posting bond for Sarah Hartwell was a Timothy Wright.  In checking Timothy Wright he was married to a Harriet Parker whose bond was paid by Richard Parker.  In the 1820 census all three of these individuals can be found in Covington, Campbell Kentucky.  I have not confirmed any on the 1830 census.  By 1838, Sarah has re-married to a Peter Kinder and moved to Illinois, and then to Wisconsin.  I am looking for anyone who is researching the same or can possibly shed any light on the relationship between the three.  At this time my assumption is that William and Harriet are possibly brother and sister and Richard is the father.  Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Susan Farrell

  • Thank you for the additional information. Perhaps you could provide me a direct link to the google search you suggest. When I google search I get nothing with a James Parker. Therefore if you could send me a link, I will utilize that to review the information that you suggested. Thank you
    • Roots Web's WorldConnect's Neal Parker's family. But first do Richard PARKER, Campbell County, KY 1820. And then you will have some choices, one of which will be Roots Web's World Connect's Neal Parker's family. Hope this will get you your information, please let me know and also let me know if you make some type of connection. As I wrote before have never seen a record where the father paid the marriage bond for his daughter.
  • Lunsford GRIFFITH married Polly PARKER 1810, consent father Richard PARKER. Marriage was in Campbell County, KY. Bondsman was a James PARKER. There are 2 James PARKER. Also there is a Timothy WRIGHT brother of Phenias WRIGHT, first cousin of Elijah WRIGHT.
Elijah WRIGHT I believe is associated with the NY James PARKER, probably the ones who moved to Campbell County by 1815. type in Richard PARKER, Campbell County, KY 1820 in google search. Then click on to James PARKER, there you will get info about Richard PARKER and Timothy WRIGHT. Are the NY PARKER cousins to your PARKER. Don't know.

  • My understanding of the marriage bond that it in essence replaced the marriage banns in that it was a surety that the bride and groom were legally eligible to marry. It could be posted by a parent or guardian or someone else in the community. Richard Parker also places a bond for a Sarah Parker to marry a John Ryan. All of these bonds are $100.00 so that may have been the standard for the county. Mr. Kratz makes a good point regarding the 1820 census - we can be unsure if Richard is the older or younger male in the household. I assumed the older as head of household is listed in the census only.
  • Richard PARKER census record 1820 Campbell Co KY, also list a male age 16-26 with a female age 10 and under. Most the time a father does not post bond for his daughter in a marriage. Usually the person posting bond does not even have the same last name as the bride. This follows the pattern of Timothy Wright posting bond for Sarah HARTWELL. There is a possibility of William PARKER and Harriet PARKER are siblings. How Richard PARKER fits in I'm not sure. The bond that is posted is a pretty large amount so my guess is that there is a relationship. Whether Richard is the 16-26 male or the 45 and older male I don't know.
  • My Parkers moved to Campbell County in 1815 from New York, then on to Indiana and Illinois before breaking apart into smaller family units. Those name don't ring a bell, but I'll look. Your Parkers look to be 6-8 years ahead of them.
