Summary	Papers, 1663-1795, of the Parker family of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, consisting of the will, dated 17 December 1663 and proved 9 February 1663/4, of Thomas Parker (d. 1663); survey, 21 October 1678, of 470 acres in Isle of Wight County for Thomas Parker (ca. 1632-1688); and power of attorney, 3 March 1795, from Josiah Parker (1751-1810) of Isle of Wight County to Richard C. Anderson of Kentucky for drawing up a deed of conveyance. Thomas Parker’s will is recorded in Isle of Wight County Record of Wills, Deeds, Etc., volume 2, 1661-1719. Josiah Parker’s power of attorney was proved in Fayette County, Kentucky, Court, 10 June 1795, and in Bourbon County, Kentucky, Circuit Court, 27 February 179[?].

Biog./Hist. Note	Thomas Parker (d. 1663) settled in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, by 1650, and accumulated property. He had four children, including Thomas Parker (ca. 1632-1688), who continued to increase the family property. He had six children, including Francis (d. 1717). Francis Parker had three children, including Nathaniel (d. 1730). Nathaniel Parker had four children, including Nicholas. Nicholas Parker (1722-1789) married Anne Copeland (1723-1776), and they had two children. One of their children was Josiah Parker (11 May 1751-14 or 18 March 1810). During the American Revolution, Josiah Parker served in the second through fourth Virginia Conventions. He was commissioned an officer in the Continental Army, serving from 1776 to 1778. Parker represented Isle of Wight County in the House of Delegates from 1778 to 1779. He was appointed by Governor Thomas Jefferson to the command of all Virginia militia located south of the James River. After the war ended, he returned to the House of Delegates from 1782 to 1783. Josiah Parker sat in the United States House of Representatives from 1789 to 1801. He died at the Parker family home Macclesfield. He and his wife Mary Bridger had one daughter.
