Elisha Parker bible

Hello!

I'm new to the group and this is my first post.  What prompted me to join this community of Parkers was the hope of finding a family bible once owned by Elisha Parker.  I've recently received some handwritten transcriptions of the information in this bible but it's unclear how much of what was written was actually in the bible or if it's coming from other sources.  The difficult part is that it includes information on a family group that I have not seen anywhere else and the verification of this group is vital to my family history.

The family group is that of Jacob Parker and his wife Polly Calloway.  Specifically, the handwritten notes are as follows:

Jacob Parker m. Polly Calloway

1. Jane b June 30, 1791, m Joseph Ledbetter

2. Elisha b Dec 27, 1791

3. Hannah b Dec 11, 1795 m. Ichabod Davis

4. Uriah H. b Jun 22, 1797

5. Phebe b. Nov 12, 1799 m John Fluellin

6. Warren Baker b. Feb 6, 1802

7. Thomas M b. Mar 19, 1804

8. Jacob b. May 5, 1806 d Jul 2, 1820

9. John b. Jun 29, 1809

10. Seleta W. b Jul 5, 1812 m. John H. Long

So the Seleta W. Parker, the youngest of the children list, and her husband John H. Long, are my 5th great-grandparents.  That much I had long since documented, and I had also long suspected that she was the younger sister of the Uriah H. Parker noted here, but this is the first time I have seen them connected and certainly the only notation that I've seen with the entire family or connected to parents.

I'm hoping that someone might be aware of this bible of Elisha Parker (I believe the brother of Jacob Parker, not the child listed here) and that they might be able to confirm this family group.  If this is a transcription from a bible, it may be the only existing documentation confirming this family.

The notes say "Family Record as transcribed by L B Parker from Elisha Parkers Bible"

Thank you! - Dale Sheldon

  • Thank you James and Wayne! Yup, that's my family. It looks like there is only one other person here in Group #12 but I joined that group at least. The ancestry for John Parker and Sarah Gordy on up is great, and their son Jacob is confirmed as well - just need to confirm that Jacob and Polly are in fact the parents Seleta as that family group suggests. I think I'll start researching all the kids on the list and hopefully start finding info the links them together.
    • Dale, IF the later portion of your line stands as you now believe, I believe we are both Parker family group five (PG5). The two Georges born same era and area, both marrying "Sarah" PG5-Warrington vs. PG12-Warren, similar children names and geography have contributed to mixing the two lines, just as stated *below. But only one line had cousins marry AND move to Georgia -PG5.

"..P97 was added to Parker Family group 5 on 17 May 2006. He matches the modal values for this group on 25 of 25 markers. His oldest confirmed ancestor is George PARKER who died in Worcester (now Wicomico) County, Maryland in 1770. He wife was Sarah WARRINGTON. As is the case for P72, P97 also thought that his line of descent was from John PARKER (PG12), 1569, Southhampton England, prior to the DNA test. *It is now apparent that there were at least two unrelated PARKER lines in the Eastern Shore area in the early 1700's. And of course they used the same given names in both lines, making separation difficult.
P107 was added to this group on 8 July 2006. He matches the modal values for Family Group 5 on all 37 markers tested. The oldest ancestor of P107 is George PARKER born about 1695-1705, place unknown. He died in 1770 in Worcester Co., MD. George married Sarah WARRINGTON after February 1726 in Worcester Co., MD. Sarah was born about 1704 in Cedar Creek Hundred, Sussex County, DE, and died after 1770 in Worcester Co., MD.
P112 was added to Parker Family 5 on 5 August 2006. He matches the modal values for this group on 35 of 37 markers. His oldest ancestor is Samuel Parker, born 1765 in Worcestor County Maryland, died 1840 in Red Level, Alabama. Samuel married Mary "Polly" (last name unknown). Mary died in Red Level, Alabama in 1861.

P145 was added to this group on 6 March 2007. He descends from Elisha PARKER, born about 1630 in England. Elisha married Elizabeth HINCKLEY. He died either in Barnstable MA, or vicinity of Perth Amboy NJ. The connection to Barnstable MA, makes it very likely that Elisha was closely related to Robert PARKER of Barnstable, the ancestor of P01.
P156 received his DNA results on 15 Aug 2007. He matches the modal values for Family Group 5 on 25 of 25 markers. He descends from Sammuel Parker, born 1765 in Worcester County, Maryland, died 1840 in Alabama. Samuel married Mary PARKER, daughter of John PARKER and Sarah GORDY of Sussex County, Delaware. P112 also descends from this Samuel PARKER..."

  • I found a post that matches my understanding that the two(2) different George Parkers are claiming John-Jacob. Does this link to either of your Parker lines?
"RhondaNelson:I'm a descendant of Samuel Parker born June 7, 1765 in Worcester County, Maryland. His father was George Parker, Jr. born 1734/5 in Worcester County, Maryland and his mother was Sarah Unknown. He married his first cousin, Mary Polly Parker, daughter of John Parker (bro. of Geo. Jr.) and wife Sarah Gordy Parker. John was born in 1740 in Sussex County, Delaware. This family is recorded as living in Virginia, Delaware and Maryland because the state lines were moved from time to time. The oldest known patriarch in this family is George Parker, Sr, father of George Jr and John Parker. We don't know when or where he was born, but he lived in Somerset and Worcester Counties in Maryland and died in 1770 in Worcester. His son, John, fought in the Revolutionary War and was paid with Georgia land, as was his brother Jacob. The Parkers and the Gordys moved to Georgia and Samuel followed a year or two later."
  • Hello Dale,
    Welcome to PH.
I am not aware of any bible but I believe the parents of Jacob Parker were John and Sarah Gordy Parker. It looks like to me you are part of The Parker Project Family Group #12 http://web.utk.edu/~corn/parkerdna/park5.htm
